Property Description
Come, stay and enjoy our farmhouse at Riverbend. Located in the center of several hundred acres of longleaf pines and mixed hardwoods, sloping down to the banks of the Perdido River. Some of our favorite activities include hiking and biking on a labyrinth of well-marked roads and trails, sporting clays, excellent birding opportunities and kayaking or canoeing on the pristine Perdido River. The remote natural setting on our stretch of the river offers our most valuable asset, PRIVACY. The space The original homestead built in 1904 has been replaced with a new, modern Farmhouse. Sleeps up to 8, with 2 master bedrooms with private en suites and a bunk room holding up to four extra. Enjoy all the modern conveniences like Starlink internet, central heat & air, washer/dryer, tankless water heater, TV, dishwasher, and gas stove in a rustic setting. The large wraparound porch is perfect for watching the sun rise with your morning coffee or watching the deer at dusk. Grill under the stars with the Primo grill, add a seasonal vegetable from the big organic garden next to the house to accompany your meal. Guest access Once you leave the paved road follow the signs to the Farmhouse. Access to the Farmhouse is on pin pad entry and the code will be emailed 1 day before check-in. Guests are welcome to explore the property shown on the map; including trails, roads, and river. The wildlife is plentiful including deer, birds, wild turkey, and gopher tortoise. The long Leaf Pine Forest slopes to the Perdido Savannah offering numerous opportunities for the serious and not so serious birder and its own special flora and fauna. Numerous hiking and biking trails allow you to see the beauty of an unspoiled forest featuring both deciduous and evergreen Pines. Canoes & kayaks are available or you may bring your own. Try your hand in one of many catch and release fishing holes from the trail that follows along the river. This is a delightful opportunity to experience a southern river bottom from a most unique perspective. Other things to note Birding at Riverbend The birding opportunities at Riverbend are almost limitless. Located approximately 30 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico we are directly in the path of the more than 100 species of Neo Tropical migrants that cross the Gulf of Mexico twice a year. From the tiny Ruby Throated Hummingbird to tanagers, grosbeaks and as many warblers as you can think of. Both the spring and fall migrations are spectacular. In addition to a very diverse population of local birds we also greet the fall migration of North American birds that winter here. Due to the size and terrain of the property one may expect the upland and meadow birds as well as a wide variety of wetland dwellers. Several seed grain plots are maintained here on the farm to attract and feed the travelers. Feel free to contact us with further bird inquires. Fishing at Riverbend Should you want to try your luck at fishing during your time at Riverbend there is nearly a mile of the Perdido River to accommodate you. The opportunities abound either fishing from a canoe while floating the river or walking a well mowed trail that winds along its banks. The river is home to a variety of game fish generally found in southern rivers and creeks including bream, several species of sunfish, and bass, or as the ole timers called them "Green Trout". The most challenging fish to catch is the Chain Pickerel. The Chain Pickerel, for lack of a better term is a freshwater barracuda. Streamlined and sleek, it is the king of the predators in the river and is usually caught on bass lures. Averaging 2 to 3 pounds they are all fight and an anglers delight. The current state record 6lb 14 oz was caught about 3 miles below us. Fishing at Riverbend is strictly a catch and release policy. Live bait is not allowed nor is the use of treble hooks. The use of a guide is not required to fish here but guided trips can be arranged. Sporting Clays at Riverbend From the casual shooter to the shotgun enthusiast the sporting clays range at Riverbend offers a challenging opportunity. The course has four houses that offer a wide variety of shots of various angles, all from a fixed stand, no walking is involved. Private 1/2 day shoots of up to four shooters are available. Packages include 100 rounds per shooter plus our grilled specialty of the day. Inquire as to the menus, they are seasonal. A fine selection of over and under shotguns in both 12 and 20 gauge are available or you may bring your own. Coordinate with us in advance so that we can help make your shooting event at Riverbend a memorable one. All shooting events and activities at Riverbend are conducted by our resident trapper to load and operate the machines, keep score and ensure range safety. Make plans to shoot with us and enjoy a fine day afield. Targets included. Shells extra. Roads and Trails The roads and trails at Riverbend are a blend of old logging roads, fire breaks, and mowed game trails. These wind about the property in every direction, are well marked and maps are available to help you navigate the property. The roads and trails are kept mowed and are easy to follow. You are advised to stay on the roads and trails and not venture into thickets and tall grasses. You are in a wild and natural environment and you are advised to be vigilant.About pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 12:00 PM.About children:Children allowed: ages 0-17.About checkIn:Check in after 3:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About minBookingAge:Minimum age to rent: 25.About events:No events allowed.
