When we booked a 'traditional room' at the Kambayashi Hotel we had hoped for an authentic Japanese Onsen experience - and we certainly got it! The atmosphere of the hotel has a wonderful sense of calm and the room was laid out beautifully with futon beds (which were very comfortable) and thoughtful origami cranes on each pillow. The paper Shoji screens and the original furnishings were stylishly understated - when we opened them in the morning we were met with a spectacular view of gardens and mountains. We had hoped to have our own private Onsen (check this when making your booking) but the separate 'private' Onsens were available at a small additional cost. The outside experience amid the autumn colours was absolutely amazing. Each morning, we had breakfast which in itself was a experience (wearing the Yukatas and sandals provided really adds to the moment) We were offered a selection of Japanese or Western dishes (depending on your choice) each were delicious. There were a few other great eateries in the area for dinner. It was also an unexpected treat to find that the Snow Monkey Park was a short(ish) walk from the hotel, the forest trail added a sense of mystery to our anticipation. Our two nights at Kambayashi Hotel will be remembered forever (perhaps even repeated) We would wholeheartedly recommend it - but I'm also aware that too many visitors may change the serene nature of it! Hopefully a percent balance can be found.

The hotel send me email few days before I check in. Mainly is to help for arrange transportation (using their shuttle) from JR workstation to the hotel. I've joined snowboard training in Ryuoo ski park. Hotel staff also helped me contacted training school for the details. This is really a great experience which I haven't had before. Highly recommend this hotel to you if you have chance to visit her.

My wife & I stayed here in March ‘24 for its close proximity to the Monkey Park. From start to finish the stay was impeccable; with no request they were at Yudanaka station waiting for our arrival to drive us to the Ryokan - They also provide a free shuttle to go to the Monkey park in the morning after breakfast. Whilst rooms are small & basic, this is exactly what you are booking to experience as it’s traditional, the local town is cute to walk around and discover also. The meals, simply incredible - if you want to experience truly traditional Japanese dining at both breakfast and dinner, you need to do so in a place like this. Every single member of staff was attentive, polite and very welcoming The private onsen was a lovely experience also and most welcome after a cold trek to see the Snow Monkeys Would highly recommend anyone to stay here

It was disappointing from beginning to end. I chose this inn because I was busy with work and raising children and wanted some alone time. ○ Good points ○ There was a private sauna, hot spring, and cold bath, and the facilities were well-equipped. ○Bad Points○ ○I arrived at the inn around 3:10pm and I was the only customer, but I had to wait for a long time after being told to ”please wait”, and when I finally thought I was checking in, I was given the room key. , ``Please.'' My luggage was not carried, so I went to my room by myself. business hotel? Why did you have to wait? ○Before the 100-minute sauna reserved from 16:00, I was asked to take an oxygen capsule for 30 minutes from 15:30, and after the capsule was finished, I was asked to choose herbs for the sauna. What should I do after that? Even though I was waiting, they didn't come, and there was no one there, so I went to the sauna floor without permission, but it was already about 4:20 p.m. The time I was most looking forward to in the sauna was shortened, and the guidance was very unfriendly. ○Dinner was normal, no elaborate dishes. There was a sheet placed over the appetizer, and I thought they would take it away after we were seated, but they didn't do anything and took it off themselves.I also asked for sparkling wine, but the bottle was unopened. He put it down with a thud and walked away. Do you mean asking customers to remove the hard cork from sparkling wine? There were towels to wipe your hands, but no napkins to wipe your mouth. As well as the alcohol, the additional food seemed expensive. Two rice balls cost 800 yen, and pickled nozawana costs 1000 yen. Turnips came out in a steamed dish, but they were just tendrils and not edible. There was no explanation about the dish called salt-grilled rainbow trout with dashi soup, so I didn't know how to eat it. (There was no explanation of the dishes in general.) I asked for water with alcohol, but even though the glass was empty, it was just that. For the time being, it was a dinner that seemed to lack a lot of consideration. As a drink after breakfast, I asked for coffee, but I waited for a while after the meal, but it wasn't brought to me.When I returned to my room, they brought it to my room, but they said, ``It's late.'' I didn't say anything like, ``I'm sorry for the inconvenience,'' but instead, ``I had some coffee.'' (I know.) ○When I went home, it was raining quite a bit, and I didn't have an umbrella. The person who was seeing me off didn't say anything, so I got wet and walked to the parking lot. I felt bad till the end, and it ended. Everyone at the hotel had no smiles or hospitality. There is no energy at the inn. Perhaps because of the coronavirus, I felt that there were many things that were overlooked at this inn. I also reviewed it on Rakuten Travel, but the inn there deletes bad reviews, so I wrote a review here as well.

We went as a triple generation group of 8. The staff was so helpful and polite. We could only get the family rooms, which was 4 to a room but they were very spacious so we didn't feel crowded. I would highly recommend getting the kaiseki dinner. We enjoyed the private room, the sushi chef preparing our sushi, the owner coming in and checking on us, it was all very special & attractively presented. We all wore our yukatas to dinner and will have an amazing Christmas card picture. The onsen was wonderful, so spacious and full of amenities. They provide lots of amenities in your room too. The breakfast was amazing. My mom grew up in Japan and couldn't get over the selection of Japanese items. Best breakfast we had during our Japan trip. We also utilized the shuttle to Snow Monkey park (which was a highlight of our 12 days in Japan, so many baby monkeys, go early). It was also easily walkable to the train station, even with luggage. We bought gifts in the little gift area and really appreciated the hospitality of all the employees.

From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

1: Usually, we make reservations and stay directly from the hotel site. This time, via Online Travel Agent (”OTA”). There is a considerable difference between direct reservations from the hotel site and OTA. Drink vouchers are not included in the lounge. I think it feels uncomfortable if you are familiar with dinner at reservations and accommodation directly (because it's not about quality). 2: Housekeepers use in-house shoes, but when entering the room, You can take off your shoes in the building and arrange the room. It is perfect, including cleaning. It seems that the response to the rampant tokojirami in Paris has already been woven. Tokojirami is It comes regardless of the number and cleanliness of the hotel ☆. Although it is the deepest part of Shiga Kogen, I think the ability to respond, including the base hospital information, is the cutting edge of Japanese hotels. 3: Repeat the Buyer Base again with ”Stella” Su. It is an exquisite dish that you can taste at altitude 1600M. 〆's ”Uncle”, I dare not say risotto. ”Ottimo !!”. I also like the seafood shabu-shabu from the Japanese food ”Konfire”. Of course, 〆 is also. The service of the staff is also very good. Recently, there are many newcomers at any hotel due to lack of manpower. The same here, but I'm doing my best, ”Forza !!” 4: The reality is that not all good things are good. I am surprised at the too poor incident. Insufficient response. It is also necessary to respond appropriately to guests in violation of manners (large communal bath, restaurant). Strong perfume and colon attached to the restaurant Strike, it's extremely annoying. 5: Standards are also sufficiently large, but if you only have a panel heater by the window, it is quite cold at midnight ~ dawn. Panasonic's Aeolia is installed, but in summer What is it that air conditioning cannot be heated in winter only by using air conditioning? Sharp's commercial humidified air purifier also needs to be supplied twice / days if the water tank capacity is insufficient and it operates automatically for 24 hours. In addition, water supply must be used in the bathtub Karan. About 30 years from birth, I've been working hard, but the times are changing too early. 6: It has become a hotel that attracts guests from all over the world. In addition to guests from Europe and the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Middle East, China, etc. 々. It is a fun talk time with a view sauna. Some people from Russia, of course, are ”Détente”. They sweat and say that the staff has ”More Smile”. It is best to answer the question to try hard. He wants to talk more with the charming female staff. That's it.
