Ocean Bay Hotel & Resort

I liked staying here. Very scenic, unrushed and the staff are friendly and attentive. My room was spacious and quiet. With firm bed and pillows I was able to get a decent sleep. The hotel is next to Cape Point Beach so it was nice to go out and interact with the locals. The hot water wasn't that hot though. All in all I would stay here again if back in The Gambia.

I need to find better

So just got back from a 2 week stay and can honestly say was pleasantly surprised. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis which we were really happy with as gave us the opportunity to try different restaurants in the area even though a few have closed due to hotels now offering all inclusive. We did feel all inclusive was over priced and not a great selection on drinks. Back to the hotel on arrival we were given a refreshing drink of local wonga juice we had booked an ocean view room and were taken to it with our luggage the room was spacious and looked like it had been recently refurbished bathroom was quite small and only issue was with the shower and temperature and flow of the water which would turn from just right to scorching hot when pressure increased so just a warning. Breakfast was okay and had everything you could want, have to praise Lammin one of the waiters he was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The pool area was lovely and the pool attendant was helpful and reserved our favourite beds for us everyday. The restaurants we tried were Calypso , new one for the road and Gibbis in the local area all were lovely but favourite was Gibbis they even picked us up and drove us back at no charge. We went to Senegambia 3 times plenty of choice of places to eat and taxi sits and waits for you to bring you back which is really helpful. We did have one of the guys outside to hotel help with a few things like going to better shops for soft drinks and beer to go in mini fridge in the room which worked out so much cheaper than buying from bar at hotel which was quite pricey if not on all inclusive. We organised our own trips before we left and used Gambia Favourite Tours. Malcolm was great and took care of everything and made sure we were happy with our choices. I would definitely go back as the people weather and hotel went far beyond was I was expecting.

First time in Ocean Bay Hotel after coming to Gambia for 9 years. Lovely hotel well kept gardens. Nice clean rooms thanks to our cleaner Jumo. Staff are amazing and friendly. Nice sized Pool lovely and clean. Plenty of Banter with Amounda who looks after the sun beds / pool. Always a laugh with his Love of Newcastle United football team and my hubbys love of Manchester United 😂. Breakfast is variable with plenty to choose from. But not a lot to choose from the Evening menu. We always had plenty of hot water for a shower. The beach is always kept clean. Beautiful Hot Weather. Entertainment every night. Prices are more expensive than Local Restaurants / bars. But well worth the experience. 🙂Can’t wait to come back 2025.

I want to start by saying that I would actually stay here again. I’m rating it by Western standards. The pluses are the following: the staff is friendly, it’s a safe place, it is pretty clean, and the food at the restaurant is decent and safe to eat. Now for the negatives: My safe didn’t work, (I locked up my valuables in my suitcase during the day), the room took a while to become cool, the patio door would not lock and had black duct tape on it, I had a cold shower a couple of days because of no hot water, but there was only hot water in the sink one day. There’s a hook for a mosquito net, but no mosquito net available. Bottled water was provided the first day, but for the other six days, I was told I had to buy it at the bar. The reception area is not air-conditioned, and I tried to drink a beer at that bar one day with sweat dripping down my back. There’s always something to eat for breakfast, but it is the same thing every day. A little variety would have been nice. I was looking forward to relaxing at the pool, but it was under construction the week I was there. I was also looking forward to using the spa, but it seemed closed every day. A few times an A few times a day, the power would go off, but it did not stay off for long because of a generator. All of this is to say, I realize that it is West Africa, and the western standards are different. But I have to say, catering to some westerners, this was my experience.
