**"Beware of Theft at LE CHATEAU DE “STEAL YOUR” BAGNOLS - A Disappointing and Expensive Experience"** I had high expectations for my stay at LE CHATEAU DE STEAL YOUR BAGNOLS in late June, but I was gravely mistaken. Staying at a supposed five-star chateau, I foolishly assumed my belongings would be safe in my room while I was out at the pool and during dinner. I left my wallet with €580 on the side in my room, but upon checking out the next morning, I realized that €300 was missing. The thief had left €280 behind, likely hoping I wouldn’t notice the missing funds since there was still cash left in my wallet. I only stayed at the hotel for one night, and it was after leaving the hotel and stopping at a petrol station an hour later that I noticed the cash was lighter. I immediately called the couple we were traveling with to warn them. They had been carrying around €10,000, and although they hadn't used the room safe either, they quickly checked their money. €9,700 had been hidden in a secret compartment of a laptop bag, and €300 was in a purse. Of the €300 in the purse, €100 had been taken. The thief once again left some money behind to avoid detection—an unfortunately successful tactic while we were still at the hotel. What frustrates me even more is how the hotel management handled the situation. I contacted the management and exchanged several emails with “Louise Pineau,” who, instead of showing concern, simply lectured us about using the room safe. She insisted they needed proof of the theft to take any further action and told me I should go to the local authorities if I felt it necessary. I chose not to contact the police, as I didn’t want to spend my vacation chasing after €400 and didn’t think they’d be able to do much anyway. In summary, my experience was both disappointing and frustrating. I urge anyone staying at this hotel to lock away all your valuable items and cash. While I take responsibility for not using the room safe, I expect a higher standard of security and care from a hotel of this supposed caliber. I hope this serves as a warning to future guests. For a place that markets itself as a luxury destination, the lack of accountability and care is truly unacceptable.
