We arrived at the hotel at around 6pm. This was booked as a 2 night stay in a 3 week tour of Nova Scotia. Within 30 seconds of arriving at the front desk, we were asked to pay for our stay. We tried to explain we had pre paid via our travel company in the uk and they had booked via a Canadian agent. This system is standard for many UK booked holidays. This was met with head shaking, head in hands and s-l-o-w-l-y telling us we didn’t understand that no- one could pre pay and they had not received our money. The receptionist then waived an alleged void credit card receipt to prove the Canadian agent had not paid. As no one was allowed to pay in advance, this was baffling. It was also incredibly rude. We felt we had no option but to pay. We asked to see the room. Of course we had been allocate the room I specifically said I did not want: room 6. We were then told if we didn’t like it, we could find somewhere else. In 50 plus years of travel, no one has ever said this to me before. Room 6 doesn’t look like the web site picture - it had been stripped out. The window is above the kitchen extract fan. It’s smelly. It’s noisy. You cannot open the window. Therefore the air conditioning is the only option. It’s very noisy. No sleep! The view? You can see a tree and a bit of the buildings opposite. I gather other rooms have balconies and sea views. Not room 6. It’s awful. We did have a good breakfast with a friendly waitress but the other lady was a rude nightmare. For clarity - we had prepaid and if there was an issue, did we deserve this? We were guests. We were lucky that our next hotel had a room available for our second night. We left. We have been fully refunded with compensation. Unless you are desperate, AVOID.

We stayed in the studio flat and apart from the sloping ceilings, it was perfect. It is very well equipped and with a great view of the water and boats. The breakfasts were superb with the out door tables a lovely place to start the day. Staff very friendly and helpful

We stayed for two nights at this charming waterfront property. The room was comfortable with a small balcony to sit out on and enjoy the afternoon sun. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were a little disappointing, I found the food to be really greasy. Perhaps I ordered badly as other customers seemed to be enjoying their food…

We stayed here for 1 night. The staff at this inn were all very friendly. Once you check in they walk you to your room and give you info about the town, what to do and where to eat. The inn was very sophisticated. We were in room 6. Only issue is during the day there is a noise coming from the kitchen restaurant vent which is just outside the window. Other con would be the TV is in a wardrobe cabinet and you can’t watch TV from the bed as the doors on the cabinet don’t open all the way. Other than those 2 issues we had a great time. We ate breakfast and dinner on site and both meals and service were amazing. Highly recommended, but not that specific room.

We stayed here for 2 nights in mid-July to use as our base for a day-long Cabot Trail jaunt between our first and second nights. Vicky greeted us upon our arrival and personally escorted us to our King Bed / Lake View room on the top floor, and gave us an overview…she is great! We were in Room 4 and it was perfectly appointed with everything needed (including a plus-sized fridge, appreciated for my wife’s medications). The room has clearly been upgraded recently…firm bed, superb air conditioner (needed this time of year), and the washroom plumbing all in perfect working order (great pressure and hot water!) along with bath amenities provided. We dined at the attached restaurant the first morning and had a fabulous breakfast of lobster scrambled eggs (wife) and superb French toast (me). Our rate included a discount on the restaurant tab for both mornings (although we had to leave before the 8am breakfast start the second morning). The only less-positive for our stay is that you need to be prepared to haul your luggage up a steep flight of 15 steps if you are staying in rooms 4, 5, or 6 on the top floor. This does not cost this review any stars/points; it’s the nature of a local/family property like this and I’m just documenting it as an FYI for readers. I highly recommend this property and would return again!

I’ve travelled quite a bit and this is one of the best experiences I’ve had. Check in was easy and friendly. Staff very committed to ensuring I felt welcome. Room was amazing ! Beautiful, cozy decor. Super clean. Very comfy bed and everything I needed. The view from the deck was incredible. Included breakfast was delicious and parking was easy. 100/5 stars.

Super nice room filled with antiques in a quiet location. Nice sun deck overlooking the baddeck harbour with comfortable chairs to enjoy the sunset. Easy access with a ramp and no stairs to our room on the second floor. Lots of pillows with a very comfortable king bed.

Unknowingly we made reservations here at a time when it was changing ownership. When we arrived early, there was work going on and we were told to get lost until check in time. From there everything got better! Our accommodations, the Rose Cottage, were very nice and recently renovated. Breakfast was wonderful, across the street at the Freight Shed. Everyone at the hotel and the Freight Shed were friendly. In the end we had a five star stay!
