We booked one night stay at the Alpenblick hoping the weather would be beautiful and we could sit round the pool. The weather was vile and who knew Bad Gastein in May is like a ghost town! We arrived by train and took bus 555 to the hotel - €2.40 one way. The hotel is a good 20 mins walk from the train station and it is a challenging walk. The hotel is old fashioned, the staff were lovely. We booked a standard double and that’s what we got despite it not being full. Our room was 317 which overlooked the road and entrance - no beautiful Mountain View’s for us! The hotel has lots of public rooms for sitting, reading etc, a very small hotel bar which is open at this time of year until 10am. You can get dinner at the hotel but we chose to eat out. Make sure you get your Gastein card to get bus discount. We only found out after 3 trips. This means you get unlimited travel for a day for €1.50 however the buses don’t run late. The last one is around 6pm and they are also every hour. The room was comfy enough, the pillows were like teabags though. Breakfast we felt like we were told off a bit. We asked where to sit and were told anywhere without a stone as you didn’t come for dinner last night! Bear in mind dinner wasn’t included! Breakfast was continental and no one came to ask if we wanted anything cooked. We went at 0930 apparently breakfast finishes at 1015 but they took the coffee away at 0945. There wasn’t anything wrong with the hotel - it’s not their fault they are miles from the centre but it was just average and I don’t feel worth £132 for the night. You ideally want somewhere near the train station area.
