I have stayed at the Avila Village Inn several times over the past decade and found the facility worthy of staying at again. For many years the hotel stay included access the Avila Bay Club Athletic Club as an amenity, which was a nice perk, that was included in the price. However, in recent years the property has decided to charge a “resort fee” of $30 a day that covers parking, WiFi, and the use of a clunker bike, and that is all. These “resort fees” are ripoff. The facility is not located in a city so parking should not be included, and the other amenities do not justify the cost. Because of this the hotel will no longer have my business. This excessive resort fee that hotels want to charge to pad their business drives people away.

Check in was relatively easy but the front desk wasn’t really welcoming or willing to help with any special accommodations. We weren’t greeted when we walked in and one of the ladies didn’t look like she wanted to be there. The room was fine however the lighting was dim.

Misleading pricing. My husband had stayed here previously and remembered that the athletic facility next door had a swimming pool. As a regular lap swimmer, this was appealing to me. We went online and saw that a room with a king size bed would cost $135. We called the hotel to book and were told we should book online to get that price. So we did that only to find that the hotel added a $30 facility fee on top of taxes, bringing our total bill to $180+. At the hotel checking in I inquired about that fee, what it was for. I was told that it was for the coffee and hot water available in the lobby "24-7" and " use of our parking lot." I was also told that this was common practice among hotels. At the time we arrived, the parking lot right outside the hotel office was filled with construction vehicles from the construction on site -- though plenty of free parking elsewhere in the complex that the hotel is a part of. (Other businesses in this context do not charge customers for parking.) As for the athletic club next door, they now charge $25 per use. I swam once in the afternoon of our arrival, and was told I would have to pay again if I wanted to swim again in the morning. We will not be returning. The room itself is well appointed, though there is a strong chemical smell.

I booked the "Grand escape suit" on their site. When you book this room it says there is a vaulted ceiling. They show pictures of a vaulted ceiling and that's what they're selling you. I have stayed at this resort before knowing the vaulted ceiling is on the second floor. So I booked it on the Avila Village Inn site. Upon arrival we got checked into a first floor dark suite. . I went up to the desk to explain I specifically booked in this site to make sure I had the second floor room. The "New Manager" seemed nice but completely uneducated of the property . She had no solutions. So she said she would talk to her manager. I never heard anything so I emailed letting them know of the issue and this is the response they emailed back; Good afternoon Makayla, I do see that you booked one of our Grand Escape Suites. Unfortunately we do not have both suites with the vaulted ceiling. We do understand the appeal of the vaulted ceiling in our suit on our second floor. We can always notate the request for the second floor suit if you would like to reach out when you book with us again. Guest Services Guest Service Representative So sad to treat locals this way, pathetic actually. The two suites are NOT both fairly represented on their website and should be different prices for what you're getting. I asked for a partial refund and that was their response. I will never give you guys my business again.

My sweetheart and I were looking or a special place to stay for our 10th Anniversary this month. We called the Avila Village Inn to find out if we could make sure to get a room with a bathtub and away from any construction noise as we were to lay down $500-$600 for two nights. I spoke to Tom who from the start was unwelcoming as if I was bothering him. It proceeded to feel was like pulling teeth to get clear answers or advice from him. His lack of friendliness and clarity lead us to book elsewhere where we felt more welcomed. I read reviews about unfriendly staff and they proved true. Management would benefit from ensuring that their staff represent their Inn in a positive rather than a repelling way.

We stayed at Avila Village Inn the week between Christmas and New Years. So this is a late but rightly deserved review. I can't say enough about the service and quality of the rooms, staff and property. 5 Star Review from our family. All staff from everyone who was at the front desk to our housekeeping staff was superb. I am writing this review for an above and beyond thing that the Front Desk clerk, Tommy, did. And I want him to be recognized: This was a last minute vacation scheduled for my little family (myself, husband and our 2 year old daughter). Daycare was closed for 2 weeks so what the heck, let's go to the Central Coast, a place we love so much. My husband is an alumni of Cal Poly SLO so he was itching for a visit. If anyone has kids or has close relationships with children, you know that something if they lose something coveted, all hell will break loose. My daughter just got a new Moana blanket from her aunt and loved it. She walks around the house with it, plays with it, bundles her dolls in it, etc. We decided it's a small and thin enough blanket, lets bring it with us on this trip to make things easier. On our last night there, we could not locate the blanket, but kiddo fell asleep easy enough, I figured I would find it the next morning while we packed up to leave. We searched everywhere in the room, the closets, the balcony, the swimming pool, out car - Nothing. Well, in our last ditch effort when we were checking out and said thank you to the staff, we asked about the blanket just in case. They looked at lost and found and didn't see anything. So we had a sad 2 year old that we were strapping into the carseat to head home. Just as we were about to back out of the parking stall to leave, Tommy comes running for us and sees us in our truck, waves us down - With the Blanket in hand!! As soon as we walked out, he happened to check with room service just in case. And they looked and they found it! It must have got wrapped up in the sheets when room service cleaned out room. We were so thankful for him just checking for us but us parents were the most thankful as we didn't have to hear the crying and whining about losing the blanket then having to replace it. So thank you Tommy for going above and beyond!! We appreciate you!

Wow, really disappointed in my experience especially after reading the positive reviews and having reasonable expectations based on them and customary standards in service. Unfortunately I had a poor experience, and I see why so many of the reviews have complained about the front desk lack of service and expressed concerns about the front desk not being kind or welcoming. The front desk person did not recommend himself well, and as a frontline person did not represent the inn well. He was not welcoming or accommodating. I was placed in a room with a location that I was uncomfortable with and the front desk attendant did not seem to pick up on that or care, seemed determined to keep me in the room regardless of the concerns I expressed. The room was pretty basic but I was pretty grossed out by the large stain on the main seat in the room. Also the “fireplace” barely worked, which is another issue they have had several complaints about on multiple review sites. I will give them credit for having cold water and coffee in the lobby which is one of the few things they did right. The hot water for tea tasted off. Bathtub set up is not practical. Overall very misleading representation online and I would absolutely not return.

A secret gem! Everything was wonderful. Customer service was excellent! Thank you Matt and Tommy for your wonderful restaurant and hiking recommendations. Both gentlemen were friendly and helpful during our stay. The hotel was clean and I appreciated the free bike rentals and coffee/tea in the lobby.
