Sleep Inn

We've been traveling cross country and decided to take an overnight rest break. This hotel was clean&staff friendly. Great price for area. Just a short drive to historic downtown to to catch dinner at a local favorite and take in the charm. Con- loud AC and shower head needs help.

We found this place online while enroute to see friends in VA. We were beat and needed a place to sleep before continuing on. The place was very nice, easy access to and from the highway. Check in and out was a breeze. The beds were VERY comfortable. The room temp was perfect.

Sadly, it is hard to find a pet-free hotel in this particular stretch of I-81, both because most hotels allow them and because, literally, it is hard to search for "NOT pet-friendly" (a shortcoming of travel sites). Anyway, after we discovered that every hotel in the area allows allergy-inducing vermin in rooms, we called around to see which hotels have specific pet rooms (the better ones do that) and on our second call, we got this Sleep Inn and they said they could ensure we got a room that had never had pets (except, of course, for those horrible people who bring their pets into pet-free rooms regardless of rules). So, we booked here. The front desk person remembered our call and was happy to give us a pet-free room. He was a great associate. And the room didn't have any nasty smells or hairs or anything, however, there's just no way to make sure that pet-free rooms don't share bedcovers, pillows, pillowcases, etc from the pet-allowed rooms and as a result, I did have breathing difficulties. So, room was OK but still couldn't be truly pet-free. (Also, the bathroom was really tiny) Breakfast was on the lesser end of quality for the hotel free breakfast craze. Reconstituted eggs, sausage, heat-and-eat French toast. No traditional oatmeals or quality yogurts or such. Mediocre. All in all, I think I'll scratch this (and any other pet-friendly) Sleep Inn off my list of places to stay when traveling up and down I-81.
