Shamrock Lodge Hotel

This is a family run hotel, the food was fabulous, so fresh and served really fast. The room was clean and spacious. I will be returning and highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling for business or pleasure.

I recently stayed at Shamrock Lodge in Athlone and found that it generally suited my needs. The lodge was clean, the bedrooms were spacious, and the beds were very large and comfortable. The location is excellent, it is less than a 10-minute walk to the town centre and the large car park made access and parking very easy. However, there were several issues with the self-catering facilities. The kitchen shown on the website included a sink and oven, but the apartment we stayed in had neither. There was no kitchen table and only two chairs for four people. Instead, there was an unnecessary extra bed in the living area, which took up valuable space. A table and proper seating would have made far more sense. We had to sit on that bed to eat, and we had to wash our breakfast dishes in the bathroom sink, which isn’t acceptable in a self-catering setup. The water pump was also very noisy and turned on loudly every time any water was used, even during the night, which made the apartment feel far from peaceful. I work in a hotel myself, so I understand how things can vary between properties but I was genuinely disappointed by the lack of a proper table and seating arrangement. That’s a basic expectation in any self-catering accommodation. Another important note is accessibility. Our apartment was on the first floor and had around 15 stairs to access it. This wasn’t an issue for us, but anyone with mobility needs or using a wheelchair would definitely need to request a ground-floor unit in advance. Despite these issues, the lodge did suit me for my purpose, and I would stay again mainly due to the location, comfort of the beds, and spacious layout. But I’d advise others to manage expectations about the kitchen and dining facilities, especially if you're planning to cook or eat in.

Great Hotel, modern clean rooms with comfy beds. Staff very friendly. Free parking and only 10 min walk to centre of town. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Would recommend.
