Deze Van der Valk-locatie kan wel een opfrisbeurt gebruiken. De inrichting oogt verouderd, en het pand mist de moderne uitstraling die je tegenwoordig van Van der Valk mag verwachten. Een verbouwing zou de sfeer en het comfort zeker ten goede komen.

We hadden met een bevriend stel geboekt oor Oudjaarsavond 2024 en aansluitend een overnachting. Doen we de laatste jaren bij een Van der Valk hotel. Nu was hotel Arnhem aan de beurt. Bij het inchecken werd ons medegedeeld dat het restaurant met bar om 21.30u zou sluiten. Beetje vroeg voor Oudjaarsavond en we waren hierdoor ogal verrast, maar dit hadden we kunnen weten want dit stond op de website aangegeven. Gelukkig heeft hotel Arnhem een grote en mooie bar (Brasserie West-End) in het souterrain. Echter was deze ook gesloten! Op Oudjaarsavond nota bene! Wegens gebrek aan personeel want "ja, wij willen ook oud& nieuw vieren!", zo gaf het personeel aan. Dus op Oudjaarsavond niets te doen in het hotel. Niks gezellig met andere gasten in de lobby of bar met een hapje en drankje het einde van het jaar beleven en proosten op een nieuw jaar. Van armoede maar met een flesje drinken (dat we gelukkig nog wel aan de balie konden kopen) naar onze kamers getogen om daar op TV de aftelling naar 0:00 uur mee te maken. Verder niks mis met het hotel. Niet super maar zeker niet slecht: diner 's avonds was prima (wel prijzig: € 34,50 voor een biefstuk en daarbij nog € 4,50 apart afrekenen voor een klein schaaltje (zoete aardappel) frites). Geboekte Comfort-kamer was ook OK. Wel een erg kleine doucheruimte in de badkamer overigens. Veel werd op Nieuwjaarsmorgen goed gemaakt door het uitgebreide ontbijtbuffet. Maar we hadden dan ook honger als een paard, na de vorige avond voor het laatst te hebben gegeten en Oudjaarsavond verder zonder enige hap te hebben doorgebracht. Dus: hotel Arnhem prima voor een overnachting met ontbijt, maar op Oudjaar zien ze ons daar zeker niet meer!
