We have spent 2 nights at Fish River Lodge and joined the full day Canyon Drive. The activity was a great experience, although it is a long drive. Service by the guide and at the lodge was extraordinary.

The food was excellent, the service unexpected and welcoming, and in Afrikaans! The rooms are slightly less glamourous than what I remember and the smells needs to be addressed.

Everything was perfect. The view from the rooms. The feeling of the nature, being in our warm beds while the wind was blowing into the canyon. Activities (Sundowner, Half Day Hiking and Canyon Drive) were great and learnings from our guides (Floyd and Angelo) were deep. Thanks a lot to the whole staff for this moment out of the time.

The facilities and hospitality at the lodge could not be faulted. It is a superb example of location, harmony with the environment and opportunities to explore. With Dion as our guide, we hiked down “Jelly Legs” into the canyon itself, learning about geology, flora and fauna of the region. For the next 2 days and nights, we traversed the canyon and slept in stunning permanent camps on the canyon’s rim. Sunsets, 3-course dinners and warm showers at each camp were. unforgettable. I recommend a 4-night block of time: Day 1 to arrive and prepare, Days 2 and 3 to hike and stay at the camps. Day 4 return to the lodge and enjoy the luxury.

We loved everything about the lodge. Stunning views, breathtaking location. It felt very special to stay here. Fabulous to be able to go down to the bottom of the canyon. The light changed every minute making the outlook special. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough. It was very cold when we were there so be prepared for wrapping up warm.

We stayed 2 nights at this stunning canyon-edge location. The drive here from Aus crosses a river bed multiple times, but take it easy and it's fine. We had a standard room, which was spacious and high-ceilinged, with inside and outside shower, and balcony. Wifi is only in the main building, and you have to ask for a log-in code every time. The "infinity" pool was too covered in mosquitoes to risk! The food is excellent. We did an all-day canyon drive to a swimming hole; the driver was very skilled with 4WD, as the road is very steep and rocky. We dismounted for a down-hill walk at one point, and had a lovely viewpoint above the snaking river. An amazing barbecue lunch was served to us at the swimming hole, even with chilled wine!

Beautiful surroundings. Spectacular views from your room and especially from the restaurant/pool area. Spacious rooms with everything you need to enjoy. Great dinner in a nice restaurant.

Die Lodge liegt im Nirgendwo direkt am Canyon. Die Anreise ist abenteuerlich aber machbar. Ein Allrad Wagen ist angebracht. Unbedingt mit vollem Tank anreisen, da für die Rückfahrt die nächste Tanke erst in Aus ist (ca. 250km). Herzlicher Empfang und sehr guter Service. Phantastische Aussicht in den Canyon. Erstklassige Unterkünfte und hervorragendes Essen. Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit auf der eigenen Terrasse zu übernachten. Also unter freien Himmel mit Blick in den Sternenhimmel. Besser gehts nicht. Achtung! Es kann sehr windig werden. Da die Fish River Lodge die einzige Lodge ist, bei der man in den Canyon runter fahren kann, sollte man diese Tour auf alle Fälle buchen, wenn die Temperaturen es zulassen. Das war die krasseste Tour die wir jemals hatten. Aber die Fahrer sind spitze. Unten angekommen gibt es dann ein Lunch Paket und die Möglichkeit im Fish River zu baden. Glücklicherweise hatte es dieses Jahr sehr viel geregnet, so dass er Wasser führte. Völlig ungefährlich. Ein einmaliges Erlebnis, was wir sicherlich nie mehr vergessen werden. Wir können die Fish River Lodge uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Vielleicht nicht die preiswerteste Unterkunft, aber es lohnt sich.
