Spur Hotel

We were traveling in our Tesla to our next charging station ready to stop for the night. We saw the hotel, new nothing about it but it looked so charming from the outside. The hostess was so friendly and helpful. We were Leary of the stairs because we are older. She gave us the suite on the second floor. There is no elevator. It was still a challenge for us, but so glad we stayed. If those walls could talk. So much history. No hot breakfast but packaged pastries and breakfast bars to take on the road. There is a wonderful cafe right across the street that she mentioned also. Lots of options. The towels were thick and plentiful, water, juices in refrigerator in lobby provided. Ice from the freezer in the kitchen. Nice selection of coffees with a Kergue in the room. No television but wifi is good. Books and more books everywhere. Lots of opportunity to read. Archer City is the home of the author of Lonesome Dove, the Last Picture Shoe, and Terms of Endearment. Photo ops everywhere. A fun stay.

This place was great! The owners were awesome and the rooms were very clean and well kept. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay! If you ever have the opportunity to visit Archer City, don’t hesitate to stay at the Spur Hotel. If you’re hungry in the morning you can walk right across the street to Mern’s Cafe, they serve a great breakfast and the staff is just as friendly as the people at the Spur. Thank you, Tim A. !

We had a lovely two night stay while attending a workshop nearby. The owners are so friendly and helpful, and our room was very quiet and comfortable. Even though there is no sit-down breakfast available, the owners keep a complementary snack bar stocked with pastries and cereal bars. Be sure to note in case climbing stairs is difficult for you that all the guest rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and there is no elevator.

While on a road trip to Wichita Falls for work, I wanted to extend my stay an extra night and randomly chose the Spur Hotel and Archer City for that stay. I am SO glad I did! I already can't wait to go back. Archer City is so authentic, and the Spur Hotel captures aspects of old town Texas perfectly -- starting with the warm welcome from the owners and down to every detail of the decor and atmosphere that put you right at ease as you get ready to stay in someone else's home. The coffee, drinks and snacks are available 24/7, along with use of the dining area and the sitting room. The beds were comfortable, the AC was spot on and the hot water plentiful in the shower. I was impressed by how clean everything was, and it seems like John and Dotty have anticipated every need before you even realize it! Box fans, an extra cot, blankets, and toiletries are available on each floor to use as the need arises. Thank you for a relaxing, refreshing time at the Spur Hotel!

We passed through Archer City on the way to Dallas and stayed at the Spur Hotel. Such a nice charming hotel with all the amenities and modern touches. Archer City is very quiant and a throwback to old Texas. Watch the movies The Last Picture Show before you visit. It was filmed in and around Archer City and kind of neat to recognize use the buildings that are still there 50 years later

What a gem! I “stumbled” on the Spur Hotel while on a rambling by-way road-trip! The hotel is historic as well as impeccably clean with modern conveniences and yes, no tv’s in the rooms, thank goodness! However there is a tv downstairs in the lounge area if you must have one. Personally I love staying in small boutique historic hotels that do not have TVs in the rooms, it ruins the “historic feel” of the place. The proprietors, John amd Dottie, we’re very warm and friendly and made you feel like you just came home! I had the 2nd floor suite which was very comfortable, beds slept well and the towels were luxurious. Loved the Keurig in the room with plenty of choices tea or coffee and ample cream and sugar ! Thank you!! If you are in this area, do not miss out on this wonderful hotel, it truly is a gem!
