This is a wonderful hotel which offers everything for a relaxing short break. It is set in a beautiful area with stunning views of Appleby and beyond. The staff are friendly and welcoming. My wife was treated to a head and body massage and was so full of praise for Megan who talked her through the whole process. The spa was excellent and very reasonably priced. Equally, the restaurant was lovely.

We were in Appleby for a very personal and emotional day. The hotel reception was efficient and very informative. My 2 sons shared a room and I was in room 31 on the ground floor. It was like a suite with huge bed and two chairs and a sofa. Lovely clean bedding with 4 pillows 2 soft and 2 firmer.TV was good with all the channels and subtitles for my deaf ears! The bathroom was large enough with a walk in shower and Elemis shampoo and conditioner. A treat. Room 31 had a small terrace with a table and 2 chairs and a lovely view over gardens and also Appleby. All the staff were smashing. Nothing was too much trouble. We had coffee on arrival then went to the river in the late afternoon. Breakfast was so good. The usual buffet but superior to most I have had, Cooked breakfast was a choice and delicious. I was sorry to leave. Luxury for our stay. Thanks I hope we can return.

Spent a lovely weekend away with friends enjoying the hotel and spa as well as some local walks. The hotel staff were all excellent and very obliging. A personalised approach to service. Pauline in reception was particularly helpful. The views from the bar/ restaurant and lounge are beautiful- photos don't do it justice. Lovely surroundings. Rooms were very good size, comfortable and clean with a good selection of hot drinks. Would recommend and will certainly return with my other half in future!

We booked a room in the coach house, but were delighted to be upgraded to a garden room. We noticed there is a fair bit of traffic noise from a nearby road which may affect coach house rooms whereas the garden view room we stayed in and the public rooms in the hotel were totally quiet. The hotel consists of a sympathetically restored manor house, maintaining its delightful architectural features, yet offering modern facilities and decor, all in excellent condition. The room we stayed in (33) appears to be in a modern but sympathetically designed extension and was spacious with comfortable beds, a good size telly, and a modern bathroom with walk-in shower, but no bath. Providing a blanket instead of a duvet was no problem. Tea, coffee, biscuits and a kettle were provided. Everything was clean and in good condition. The room overlooked the hotel's garden with the countryside beyond. It was about 3/4 mile to walk into Applebury town where there are pubs and alternative places to eat. Breakfast in the hotel was very good, freshly cooked, served hot, a good selection on offer. Dinner could be taken in their fine dining restaurant, or their bistro. We opted for the bisto and found the food OK with generous portions, but with room for improvement in preparation. Duck Confit showed no sign of being marinated in garlic and herbs before cooking, the skin was soft and the bed of lentils it was served on could have been a delicious ragout, but it wasn't. Seafood pasta lacked significant seafood, carbonara lacked bacon and cheese (pecorino) and was swimming in cream which shouldn't have been there. There were some good wines on offer, but with a starting price of just under £30, the quality was as good as expected. The hotel's bar had a good selection of drinks and 2 draft beers. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. If you like walking there are several opportunities straight out of the hotel. We did a delightful 10 miles visiting Hoff and Great Ormside, returning to Appleby for afternoon tea. Other routes north of the A66 could easily be plotted

We were very happy with our spa and gin break at Appleby Manor. It was excellent value with good food and friendly service. We didn't take advantage of the distillery tour because of its distance away but enjoyed every other aspect of the package. The hotel is outside of the town centre - about a 20 minute walk . We would certainly return in the future.

Awful customer service . Arrived at the hotel, the receptionist did not smile once and greeted us to a room that she considered deluxe .It was suppose to have a bath in it but didn’t ,bed was small and when we questioned the room was was told ,that’s it and we are all booked up .The most miserable reception I have ever experienced and I stay in 4/5 star hotels through the week with work . Decided to go outside to watch the sunset come down and we had bought our own two glasses of red to do this .Paul the bar man insisted on chasing us as we entered the small bar area to exit the building ,telling us that no one could bring any food or external drink into any part of the hotel except your bedroom .Honestly so embarrassing for him on reflection, I think he needs to realise he does not own the manor and his job is to provide customer service and ensure that people enjoy their stay . Fur coat and no knickers I think gives it a good description ,building is lovely and surroundings but they need to employ some real staff .

Tasty food, lovely spa and treatment and friendly staff. Staff are attentive and the spa layout is very accessible. All areas were clean and were atmospheric. The robe and towel provided were ample. The Summer experience package was good value for money.

After a long and tedious journey on the M6 it was a joy to turn off at Junction 38 and make our way across glorious countryside to the hotel. I was part of a large group and so our meal choices had been made beforehand. The staff were really efficient with the different choice plates, but unfortunately the meal in all instances was only lukewarm. The room which I had was very spacious and clean. The bedding was cotton. There was an amenity tray with biscuits and a small jar of Pretzels. The room itself looked out onto the large seating area in the garden. There was a large Conservatory which also looked out onto the garden. The hotel also has a Spa and treatments should be booked in advance including the Sauna which was £25 for two hours. The hotel has ample parking space.

Stayed 2 nights DBB in a Garden Room. Food at B and D was top quality in both the restaurant and bistro. Staff were all friendly, attentive, helpful and professional. Great views from both the restaurant and bistro - top of Appleby Castle in the distance. Attractive well kept gardens. Plan to return next year.
