Almyrida Village and Waterpark

Just got back from a week at Almyrida Village & Waterpark with my partner and two kids (ages 6 and 9), and overall we had a really enjoyable stay. It’s not without its flaws, but for the price we paid, it was great value and a lovely base to explore this part of Crete. The location is the standout. Absolutely stunning sea views from the pool area and only about a 5–10 minute walk down to the beach and the village. Almyrida itself is really charming and proper Greek vibe, loads of nice tavernas right on the water, and not overly touristy. The hotel itself is a bit of a mixed bag. The rooms are fairly basic but clean and surprisingly spacious. Ours had a sea view which was lovely to wake up to. The air con worked well (a lifesaver in July!) and the beds were comfy enough, though the sofa bed for the kids was on the firm side. Bathroom could use a bit of an update, but it did the job. The pool area is brilliant – large main pool with loads of loungers, plus a separate kids’ pool and a couple of slides. To be honest, calling it a “waterpark” is stretching it a bit – it’s more like a decent hotel pool with a few slides – but the kids loved it, and it was perfect for cooling off in the afternoons. Breakfast was included and pretty decent – standard buffet stuff: eggs, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, etc. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner at the hotel so can’t comment on that, but honestly you’re better off heading down to the village – every meal we had there was lovely and very reasonably priced. I’d highly recommend a place called “Thalami” by the beach – amazing seafood and super friendly staff. The staff at the hotel were all really polite and helpful – especially Giorgos at reception who gave us loads of good tips for nearby beaches and places to eat. Check-in was quick and smooth, and when we asked for extra pillows they were brought up straight away. A few small niggles: The tiles around the pool could do with a bit of attention, few cracked ones here and there. No entertainment in the evenings, which suited us, but might not be for everyone. Bit of a hill coming back from the village, not a big deal for us, but maybe tricky for older guests or those with buggies.

Kiki has being such a help to us durring our vaction she has showed nothing but kindness to us this while vaction she had showed us where the best places to go were and helped us if we ever needed help. She has made my experience in alydrima village and watermark exceptional.
