Excellently located opposite The Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSKA), the sunny terrace of Hotel Pilar looks welcoming. However, although pleasant and courteous the service was slow, and the food mediocre. My friend's meatloaf was acceptable, but my Shrimp Croquettes were not: composed of a slimy brown sauce, deep-fried, the two small croquettes (20€) had very little to do with shrimps, and a great deal to do with processed food. Disappointing.

The friendly staff and super cool interior Location is great for getting to know the city with best galleries, restaurants, shops, museums, ... Great restaurant on the ground floor as well, great caesar salad and seasonal dishes. The rooms also have amazing views.

J'ai réservé une suite pour une nuit (250eu) pour moi et ma copine. A l'accueil, le personnel nous indique simplement la chambre et ne nous accompagne pas. Une fois arrivé au bon endroit, la table du salon est dans un état minable, il y a un trou dans le mur de la salle de bain et de la moisissure/humidité le long du bain. Les informations comme petit déjeuner compris et bouteille de champagne offert n'est pas dans leur base de donnée. Je dois retrouver mon mail de confirmation et leur renvoyer. Ensuite, le monsieur à l'accueil ne nous propose pas de changer de suite malgré les photos montrées lors de notre état des lieux. Finalement, nous demanderons d'être déplacé. Un niveau en dessous se trouvait la même suite, impeccable et dans laquelle nous nous installons. Pourquoi nous avoir réservé la première suite alors qu'en dessous était disponible la même et dans un bien meilleure état ?? Enfin, n'ayant pas eu la présentation de la chambre, et sans que nous nous en rendions compte, la climatisation a tourné toute la nuit. Je me réveil donc avec un mal de gorge. C'était ma première expérience. Dommage que tout cela ne soit pas plus soigné pour un hôtel étoilé et au prix de 250€ .

The small room we booked turned out to be not only huge but also an interior designers dream, the hidden staircase is a gallery full of contemporary art and the breakfast was a delight - even for breakfast-avoiders like me. The location could not be better if you like restaurants and being far enough away from the beaten tourist tracks.

Hotel Pilar ligt prachtig en het personeel is meer dan vriendelijk! Onze hotelkamer was matig. Geen badkamer maar wastafel met alleen koud water naast het bed. De douche was een betegelde ruimte zonder aan de buitenkant mogelijkheid om je handdoek op te hangen. In deze prijsklasse zou een “ echte “ badkamer net een wastafel met warm en koud water wel op zijn plaats zijn. Misschien zou dit in de beschrijving van de kamer moeten staan

My stay was a disaster The door to my room did not close, and the heating in the room didn’t work. I arrived to find my room completely open and totally freezing. In the morning, the room was so cold inside that there was water on the windows. Building work on my floor started before 7am. The door to the fire escape was propped open, which only made me even colder. There were workmen banging, scraping, and slamming doors from 7am. All made worse by the fact that my own room door wouldn’t close and so kept banging every time they went past. It turned out I’d even been put in the wrong room I told the front desk about this in the morning, but then sat at breakfast for an hour, with no apology or even acknowledgement from management. I watched the manager across the room stand for half an hour laugh and joke with some customers, but he didn’t even make eye contact me. This is the first time I have left a review for any hotel, but I feel I have to because it was so bad. Stay anywhere else in Antwerp but here. The street would be quieter, warmer, and cheaper. Delicious breakfast though
