Hotel Antequera Hills

A good hotel for visiting places such as El Torcal and Caminito del Rey. We stayed there for two nights. The hotel is within walking distance of the centre of Antequera, in a quiet location. There is a paid underground car park, which we used. The rooms are good: well-kept bedrooms and bathrooms. We had booked two rooms with direct access to the swimming pool, which is a real bonus. It was a bit of a shock when we arrived in the rooms and opened the curtains to find that a large family had taken over our two terraces and were smoking and eating there; they made no effort to move. It was very rude and unfortunate that the lifeguard on duty did not intervene. He could at least have notified someone from the hotel staff to ask this family to move. We received a very friendly welcome at the reception and also in the restaurant. The breakfast and dinner (buffet) were very well prepared.

We visited recently as part of a UK based group. Before the trip I was concerned about negative reviews on TI. However my experience was very good, and I have no criticism that would deter its choice as suitable base for those visiting Andalusia. The hotel is modern, although from distance its roofs appear old. The rooms are modern and clean. Breakfasts and Dinners are buffet style, and quite good, though many visitors might prefer the many restaurants in the town, 10 - 20 minutes walk away. There is a sparkling clean swimming pool and a fair number of sunbeds, etc. All of the staff I spoke to were efficient and friendly. Finally, it is very good value, and a good choice if you're visiting this area.

We stayed at the Antequera Hills Hotel as part of our holiday package deal. The reception area is large and comfortable but lacked atmosphere. Our room was large and had comfortable beds a good shower and bathroom and a balcony, but was in need of updating. There were no tea / coffee making facilities, just 2 bottles of water you had to pay for. No information sheets were present in the room so you have to work things out for yourself. There is a nice cold pool but no other facilities. We were told they used to have a spa and steam room but that these had been shut down. The food was fine with a good choice but the evening meals were a bit repetitive. The main downside to the hotel is the staff. With a few exceptions most of the staff were rude arrogant and very inattentive. At times we got the impression they don't like the English and we were an inconvenience. Typical example was when I went to the bar for drinks for our group. The barman with a pony tail was serving some Spanish guests. He served the their drinks and took a food order. I was his next customer with nobody else present. Instead of serving me next, he chose to go into the kitchen and slowly collect placemats for the Spanish guests and take them to their table and chat to them. He then returned but instead of serving me, he returned to the kitchen where I watched him slowly select cutlery, wrap each set in a serviette, then taken them to the Spanish guests table. He finally returned but instead of serving me he again went into the kitchen where he disappeared for several minutes before eventually returning to the bar to serve me. I contemplated going to the reception desk to voice my displeasure with the service, but didn't see the point as in all my dealings with them I had received the same impression (that I was an inconvenience) . I had heard reports that the English were not welcome any more in Spain and this definitely was the impression I got at this hotel. If I had a choice I would not chose this hotel to stay at given our experience. I also consider that the 4 star rating is over generous, a feeling shared by others in our group.

Large spacius rooms and bathroom. lbd and pillows. The room phones do not work, so no morning calls could be arranged. You could not call another room. New fridge in room but not installed into cabinet left to one side! Tried to put a bar bill on my room only to be told that I would need to leave credit on the room! Why were we not informed of this? No safe in our room but this was rectified with one installed by the hotel maintenace after reporting to reception. The hotel is a good 25 -30 min walk from town centre, so no good for popping into town after dinner, as dinner starts at 8pm. 4 coffee machines and one very slow toaster for over 200 people at breakfast, plus one machine was not always working Inefficient layout of food for movement and access considering numbers In room information card with QR code to scan for feedback-didn’t work, plus UK was represented by an American flag!! Pipework behind the loo needed repairing. Bathroom door rubbed on floor and didn’t open close easily. Two very scruff, unappealing repainted plastic chairs on the balcony. Hotel pool: insufficient loungers and umbrellas. Rental towels were provided from reception, but again not informed or even on a room information sheet. NO information sheet. Hotel claims easy access to other ciites including Caminito del Rey-which it is not. Poor bus services, infrequent trains (station over a mile away) and expensive taxis are the only option. Despite all the 'negatives' this was a comfortble and relaxed stay. Great pool and TV with English channel and USB for playback of personal files.
