Checked into room 9, found that the toilet had excrement in it – NOT FLUSHED! A bogie stuck to the inside of the toilet door and a stain on the bedding. Otherwise the staff are pleasant and the breakfast is rather basic for 15 euros. Excellent location 5 minutes from the center. Definitely, not what expect from a 4 star hotel!

I booked this hotel for my husband’s 50th birthday. We had planned a holiday but he broke his ankle 2 weeks before so we had to cancel. Having visited lovey Angouleme before I was looking for a place with a touch of luxury to take the sting out of loosing or holiday. This hotel did not disappoint! The staff went out of their way to make our stay special. So friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful, comfortable bed, clean and everything you could want in a room. The grounds are perfect, a relax by the pool. Breakfast was good quality continental with the option of boiled eggs. We ate at the restaurant in the evening which was exceptional. I don’t think I’ve stayed in a better hotel. We will definitely return!

Nous fréquentons les hôtels 4* et plus depuis des années et nous avons été accueilli au St Gelais comme jamais auparavant ! Le jeune homme à la réception est chaleureux, attentionné, souriant et plein de bons conseils spontanés. Toute l'équipe est à l'écoute de vos envies et souhaits. Le TOP du TOP ! La chambre est claire, spacieuse et très bien équipée. Un seul petit bémol pour être tatillon : le petit déjeuner (peut cher il est vrai 15€) est un peu léger en proposition ; il manque des œufs brouillés, des crêpes ou pancakes, des saucisses ou bacon, de l'orange pressée... Nous y retournerons dès que nous serons de passage dans la région.

This is a lovely little hotel. In a beautiful old building with parking on site. Lovely modern and scrupulously clean rooms, exceptionally comfortable beds and lovely original style windows with shutters. Very friendly and helpful staff. I don’t think you’ll find nicer in Angoulême.

We have not been very happy in our previous French hotels and restaurants as the mannerism are not often friendly or comfortable. However on this occasion staff were wonderful. I wonder whether it is because it is a young team. They do a very good job and for the first time in a French hotel we felt welcome. The room was wonderful and clean.

We stopped in this hotel enroute to Bordeaux. Very tastefully furnished. The room was huge.The staff were superb. The pool area is great with a beautiful backdrop. Great find and would love to return for longer.

We were a family of 18 people who booked 11 rooms for 2-3 nights. Emilie on reception was amazing sorting out all the details about dinner on the Friday night, the room allocations, the gate code and fob for the Saturday night after the wedding when we needed to get back in at 3.30am! Thanks also to Anna and team in the restaurant and to Thomas for running about with the iron and board. Thank you to Lucas too for cleaning our car after the birds had covered it, overnight. The facilities are great too, with outdoor pool, and coffee machines in the rooms. A pretty hotel mixing old style with modern twists. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Hôtel agréable non sans charme dans la ville qui en a peu. Notre chambre était bien équipée mais la literie à revoir m’ayant causé un vrai mal de dos. L’isolation thermique était bien meilleur que l’isolation phonique ayant eu malheureusement une chambre communicante. Le personnel très agréable et le bon petit déjeuner nous ont laissé un bon souvenir. Nous n’avons pas testé le restaurant après avoir lu les critiques assez négatives.
