The Grand Hotel is the largest building in Andalsnes (or tied with one other one), yet we had some trouble finding it after we disembarked from the incredible Rauma railway. Quite a bit of uphill walking with our carry-on bags that luckily have good wheels, and we had to ask locals to point us to the right streets for reaching hotel. Once found, a very nice lady checked us in and gave us a third floor room facing the back, as I always request this for a quiet room. To our dismay, it still wasn’t that quiet since the walls are paper thin and neighboring guests can be heard. Doors closing hard was common too. The room was snug as well, but we were fine with it as it was just for overnight. The breakfast buffet had plenty of selection, but my wife noticed flies landing on some food, so she suggests using prongs the take food from underneath that flies can’t reach. After breakfast, we took the wonderful gondola to the great overlook of the town and surrounding landscape. Wow, incredible views, even with overcast skies obscuring the peaks of the mountains in view. The nice front desk lady helped store our bags while visiting the gondola, and we walked back up the hill to pick them up afterwards. All in all, it’s a decent facility with some issues that can’t be resolved in terms of the way rooms and halls are built, but if only a short stay, it’s fine and the staff is nice.
Very Good
