Stanley Collection Hotel Hegra Amsterdam

We loved our stay at this hotel! We stayed for 6 nights in the ground floor room looking out at the canal and had a great experience. It was quiet, conveniently located, and a real Amsterdam period home. We loved that it was central to EVERYTHING! We could easily walk to many different types of bars, restaurants, stores, and museums; nothing we wanted to do was too far away. We especially loved staying in a hotel that felt like we were actually in Amsterdam, as the hotel is essentially a converted house - and many residents nearby so it wasnt a typical "hotel" feeling and we felt immersed in the local scene. We also loved how easy it was to chat with reception when we had an issue. We were traveling from the states and had issues with flights so we were arriving very late. I chatted with reception on WhatsApp and they gave me personalized instructions to check in when reception wouldnt be there, including a door code to get into the hotel and a door code to our room. I was also able to chat with them through WhatsApp when we needed something but were out in the city - like clean towels in our room for when we returned. Fortunately, we were on the ground floor so getting our bags into our room was easy but I can concur with out reviews that the staircase is narrow and would be difficult to get luggage up to the 2nd and 3rd floors - however, they have an electric pully that can hoist your luggage up and down, I saw it being used a few times during our stay and its actually pretty cool how they utilized the old Spice Barrel Hooks from the 1700's in this modern way, and very funny to see luggage dangling in front of my window in the morning on its way down from the rooms above us lol Perhaps the only thing I could say negatively about our experience was there was not any AC in our room so we would arrive back and it would be very very hot. They had a standing fan so fortunately, we were able to use that while sleeping. We also opened the windows while we were in the room but because we were on the first floor and very close to the sidewalk/road, we didnt want to leave the window open overnight while we were sleeping. The area felt very safe but ya never know! For us, not having AC in the room wasnt that big of a deal. We only used the room to relax for an hour or so between our exploring/shopping/events and the nights are cool so sleeping with the fan was good enough. If you want a real Amsterdam experience, I highly recommend this hotel :)
