We stayed two nights in the Lawaka Hotel on our way to the Togean Islands. The staff was friendly, but with limited English. The rooms were basically furnished, clean and comfortable, though a bit dark. The landscaping was very nice - a bungalow setting with lots of greenery and covered walkways so you wouldn’t get wet traveling through the complex. Breakfast was Indonesian style with limited choices - most, except the toast and fruit, were fairly spicy. There was ocean access on a raised covered platform offering a beautiful view, and you could sit out and enjoy either a meal or just coffee. There is not much to do in Ampana, though we did take a tuk-tuk to the Ikan Pasar (Fish Market), bought a fresh tuna, and had it grilled for us on site. We brought it back to the hotel and had a wonderful picnic lunch of the fish, rice, and a tomato salad they also prepared for us. However, there aren’t a lot of things to do for an extended stay - this is mostly good as a stop over on your travels.
