This is an old country hotel. The nameplate says it opened in the 17th century. The facilities inside are well maintained. The exterior is relatively simple, and you need to carry your own luggage up the stairs, and the winding road is not easy to walk.

Really impressed - the decor is lovely, the staff really friendly and the food was delicious. We both had the fish finger brioche, which was really tasty and good value. The waitress was very helpful. Would definitely recommend and will be back when in the area!

We have bypassed Amesbury numerous times over the last 20 years on our trips down to Devon from Surrey and realised that The George is a brilliant lunch time / dinner / night stopping place. Good atmosphere, great venue and a menu that offers a good choice of dishes and drinks, suitable for all tastes with great service from the attentive staff.

Comfortable three night stay although the rooms need a refrigerator Dinner was very good and all breakfasts were also good On the Friday night, our third night we were enjoying a drink at 11.30pm after ordering and purchasing at 10.50pm when the lights went on and we were informed that they would be ‘locking up’ the hotel - akin to lights out at the nursing home Some staff were very pleasant, but some were dictatorial and for this reason, despite a promising start it is certainly not a hotel we would return to

Dont be put off by the outside as it’s beautiful inside. Its a listed building so no air conditioning and those with mobility issues may struggle due to lay out of building Had a refurb recently Visited with bike which was no issue as they have a very good storage room which is locked so no issues there. E bike charging was supported and catered for with ease. Message on booking to be sure! Had the deluxe room which was lovely New, Modern, clean, lovely furnishings. Large sqm2. Bed v comfortable. Lovely outside patio decking area. Restaurant fabulous. Cannot fault and did not Want to leave! Highly recommend. Service was great. Helped by great care and attitude of Grace & Amy. Sam the manager went above and beyond. They will remember me as I’m probably the only guest who’s ever asked for ripe tomato’s to be delivered to my room! 🤣🤣 Wonderful stay did not want to leave.

We stayed for one night enroute to our destination and it was charming and certainly represented good value. Our room on the first floor at the front of the hotel had bags of character - the only two minor criticisms are that the bathroom is a little snug and the missing stays on the window. Service was good and the breakfast was pretty good too save the odd-tasting black pudding and tough bacon. But don’t be put off, for a 3-star its exceptional!

Spent the night here and genuinely can't fault it. The staff were all so welcoming, the food was delicious, and our room was lovely too. It was the 'little things' here that went a long way with us (including the yellow duck in the bathroom), the little note in the bedroom from housekeeping and the chocolate Maltesers with the coffee. The hotel decor, cleanliness, atmosphere, and the location all top class. You should be very proud of your hotel. I think it might be my new favourite place to stay x
