A traditional British inn with a bar downstairs. English breakfast is provided. The house is a wooden structure➕renovated later. Paintings and photographs of the Lake District are hung throughout the hotel. The receptionist was friendly. But note that Ambleside is a 20-minute walk away.

We stayed here for a week as a base for visiting the Lake District. The location was perfect for us and the location right at the edge of the lake was lovely. It was so nice to get back from a day's exploring and walking to be able to enjoy a drink and food by the lakeside. It was also only a short walk into Ambleside with its many pubs and places to eat. The breakfasts were self service and plentiful with a great selection of hot and cold options. The bar food was ok, although I felt a little over priced for what you got, but we did eat in there several evenings due the convenience of not having to go back out to eat! Sraff were all very friendly and helpful and there was never a shortage of parking spaces available in the car park. Our room was fairly small but had everything we needed as well as an amazing view of Lake Windermere to wake up to. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to spend a few days in the Lake District.

A pleasant 90th birthday family meal seriously marred by the addition of a £5 parking charge. Given the significant amount of money we contributed to the hotel, the extra and unexpected carpark fee left a sour taste. A few weeks later this was compounded by the carpark company, SMART Parking, sending a letter demanding £100 parking charge for none payment. We did pay and have the receipt for evidence. But it seems the original annoyance is being turned into a battle.

We had 2 nights stay here, originally only booked for one but decided to stay another night as the weather was better and we loved the location. First of all the staff are really attentive and friendly. Great from checking in, evening meal and beers to breakfast and checking out. Great knowledge of the local area with tips and adobe too. We stayed in a standard room and then a suite. Both rooms have great big comfy beds. The suite was beautiful and what a view ! Great breakfast selections, again friendly staff welcoming you down. What a stunning location this hotel is surrounded by. Also it’s well connected with the hop on hop off bus and the water ferry ! Big car park too. We absolutely loved our stay, have already recommended and we will definitely be back.

Brilliant staff and enthusiasm, we stayed 2 rooms for 1 night- had a torrential downpour and our room had a leak from AC unit and the other room had a power cut. Reece one of the managers was outstanding in looking after us and getting things sorted! Upgraded us into 2 other rooms, next to each other for the dogs. When things go wrong in a 300yr old hotel it’s expected- but it’s how management and staff deal with things that leave a lasting impression. Great vibe around the place and we will Be back! Evening dinner was nice with a view from bar & breakfast was right on point Good work and thanks again to Reece

A bit strange having the rooms split on either side of a main road. I was worried about the road noise during the night but the room had great double glazing that muffled it out . The room had a Juliet balcony which was wonderful to open up and watch the world go by .The room was spotless, I found the bed uncomfortable but each for their own. The bathroom was the biggest let down it was so small and the sink stank like a rat had died in the drain we put some shower gel down the plug which hid the smell for a bit, we did report it and got told they would look at it. . Great bar/restaurant on the other side of the road right on the bank of Windermere, food and drinks choices were good and reasonably priced the only thing that let them down was the cheap sausage they used for breakfast. Would I return hell yes .

We didn't stay at the Inn, we just came to the bar for some drinks but it was still lovely! The seating area is right on the water and you get a lovely view. The staff are quick and attentive and the queue at the bar moved quick. We really enjoyed our evening drinks watching the sunset- so much that we came back the next night.

Just had a fantastic stay booked a 2 night break for myself and my husband, room was lovely with our own patio, location and view from the beer garden are amazing, staff were all lovely and very helpful, will definitely be back
