Hotel is set in a fantastic location, a lovely slate building in an amazing valley looking at some incredible mountains. Sadly it is in need of some investment - wallpaper peeling off the walls as you enter reception is not the most welcoming sight! Staff are friendly (especially Diane who was here on our last visit 4 years ago). They do their best, however one member of staff often has to cover the bar and reception so expect to have to wait. Room was ok, beds comfortable but again, damp and mould patches in the bathroom are not inviting. Not sure if we'd stay here again ...

We stayed for a two night half board in a superior room 14 . We had a lovely view, the hotel is a very impressive old building nestled in the beautiful valley, car parking ample. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Our room had a few maintenance issues , beds not great if you wanted a double as two singles were pushed together. The room was a good size . Very little coffee , tea and milk . Even if you fill out the form for extra, you are limited to four little milks a day , which wasn't enough for us , but not the end of the world. Breakfast was ok could be improved . Food on the evening was standard pub food , small portion s for my husband, however if you have three courses its enough. The food was better one night than the other, i prefer colour and garnish with my meals , flavours were there, all in all we enjoyed our stay . We personally didn't find half board value for money and bed and breakfast would have been better for us .

The hotel is in a beautiful scenic location and the staff are very welcoming. However, some money needs to be spent here. The rooms need a serious update. The bathroom had mould, and the decor was lacking. The bed was big and comfy. The carpet in bar/ restaurant area is dirty and needs replacing wallpaper in reception area is hanging off. Beer garden is nice. Rustic is a good description. Food at restaurant was pretty good.

Lovely location with beautiful scenery. Staff were lovely and helpful. Rooms were a good size and we were luck enough to have a corner room and beautiful views. The food was 10/10 especially the break and great value for money.

We stayed for 4 nights and the welcome we had was so friendly The staff make this place a 5 star rating. Yes a little upgrade of the deco could be done but I would say hand on heart you don’t notice after you have settled in. The shower is very powerful and the large bed was very comfortable. The breakfast and dinner were great every time. The place just has a lovely feel to it. Fully recommend

Strong recommendation: if walking in the Langdale Valley and looking for food after your walk...drive on elsewhere. A party of four; we arrived on a Sunday afternoon after walking Langdale Pikes looking for a Sunday Roast. We ordered 3 Sirloin of Beef (£24) with Yorkshire puddings and a Nut Wellington. They had run out of the only veg option so we ordered a Fish and Chips. The food arrived, the very limited veg was hidden under two slices of well cooked beef (a few strips of savoy, one ***** of carrot and small table spoon of suede mash). There were no Yorkshire Puddings with no acknowledgement that they were missing. When we asked could we have them, the waitress disappeared, came back two minutes later and said they had run out, and said the chef 'was doing pigs in blankets, was that OK'. 10 minutes later 4 small pigs in blankets arrived and were placed on the table without a word. Noone asked was everything OK with the food at any point and we walked out without one word. To summise: appalling poor customer service, very poor portion sizes and well worth avoiding. They had ample opportunity to rectify things but the shocking service meant that we left still hungry, very disappointed and adamant to warn fellow walkers by writing this review. Avoid.
