Alykanas Village Hotel

Be warned absolutely terrible hotel. I stayed in July 2025 and was allocated a room in the old block. I’m sure if I’d stayed in the newer accommodation the review would have been different. I had to pay for a safety deposit box non refundable and pay cash for that and the tourist tax (something dodgy?). My room was digusting the tiles in the main room and more so in the bathroom were thick with dirt although it was mopped every day. The grime on the bathroom tiles and mouldy seal was evident. The shower head was facing the mirror so when used flooded the bathroom so in order to use it had to be turned on its side. The sink had brown grime under the rim of the sink. The bathroom door was difficult to shut as the door seal was coming away. The light over the dressing table had exposed wires which if I had a child travelling with me would have been extremely dangerous. The patio door didn’t lock luckily there were two sets and the outer did lock. The balcony wall was cracking and dangerous. The restaurant meals were ok but very canteen like but cleanliness was lacking. I didn’t report this to staff as the main receptionist was rude and unpleasant although the majority of staff were pleasant. The wardrobes and one spare bed had been bodge repaired. This hotel doesn’t deserve the 4 star rating not even a 3 star so check reviews before booking. I booked viewing the travel companies description and very expertly taken marketing photos. Avoid at all costs the hotel needs to be told and take the downtime periods to invest and renovate. The resort itself was great, lovely beach and good restaurants and bars nearby.

Unfortunately our stay was poor. Definitely not a 4 star, more a failing 3 star. Room: large and reasonably clean. One sheet for bedding and uncovered duvets!! Beds were like sleeping on an ironing board… so hard! The bathroom was outdated and dangerous as no grip handles to get in and out of bath, shower was a hose type, ceiling dripping from air conditioning. Black mould. No water on arrival, safe 3 euros per day despite not being mentioned on any website - cash only. Tourist tax - cash only??? Questionable??? Ambiance: Screaming children, canteen style breakfast ( quite good and varied), quiet on an evening, no entertainment. Pool bar: we did not use this due to the deafening rave type club music. More a nightclub!! Also, inappropriate language in the “music”. I did mention this to reception whose attitude was “ we don’t mind bad language in Greece”!!! Family hotel- NOT!!! Pools: Ok, but would benefit from an adults only pool. Sun loungers were very low and uncomfortable, and kept breaking. Comfortable beds by the beach were chargeable!!! No chairs for elderly guests to sit around the pool or tables for drinks. Pool area not swept and mopped during our week’s stay. We did encounter one evening of local teenagers gathering in the complex to fight and cause mayhem. That night a number of thefts took place from balconies including ours. Reception could not care a less. Just struggled their shoulders. Security poor!! We spent most of our time outside of the hotel and managed to enjoy Alykanas. I would not return to this hotel.

The Village is rated 4 star which means a nightly Greek Climate Resilience tax of €10 which makes one query the 4 star rating and were the hotel in northern Europe the rating would be high, but for Greece it's probably fair. We were in the old block and our room was large with masses of storage, there was always plenty of hot water and the aircon was whisper quiet and coped well with the 35/20 degree celsius heat. Beds were super comfy (firm but that's what we like). Towels were good (probably new) and changed daily, bed linen changed every 3 days. For it being early in season I would have expected the room to have less snags (cupboard hinges not connected and bathroom ceiling needing a lick of paint) but these are minor. Pools are great and never had a problem getting sunbeds. Breakfast has plenty of choice and of a reasonable quality. Great location right on the beach and a short walk from the friendliest village. All in all highly recommended.
