Victoria Inn

No frills B&B in an old pub. Rough around the edges but the rooms were comfy and good value for money, showers were hot and powerful, breakfast was spot on. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bike parking was in a locked yard at rear of pub. Be aware food options on an evening in Alston are limited, there's always Co-op supermarket as a fall back plan, open until 10

The hotel is old and very dated - carpets were very worn, 1980's vintage TV in my small single room (that I couldn't get to work properly!), altogether it lacked any charm or appeal. But the prices were very good value for a one-night stay - £35 for Bed and Breakfast. It did "what it says on the tin" - providing a clean soft (but comfortable) bed and a 6-item breakfast with juice, coffee plus toast and jam. My room wasn't en-suite - as the price suggests! A unisex small cubicle toilet is upstairs with a faulty lock - a nuisance. The shower worked - piping hot water. It was OK for one night, but I wouldn't stay for longer unless you are on a tight budget. Some other places nearby are much more expensive.

When my pal and I arrived we were a bit taken by somewhat dated decor of the place. However, this more than made up for by the landlady who was really lovely. The rooms were basic but clean and breakfast in the morning was great.

Great few days here. landlady very accomodating especially with bike storage and huge breakfasts to get me going in the morning Although it was looking tired it was all I needed for cycle touring, though at the end of the day the extra 33 stairs to the bedroom seemed 1 hill to many. Shame they did not do dinners but pleanty of other places nearby.
