Schooner Hotel

Check in was very easy but upon opening the door to my room I was greeted with a bed that had been slept in and the smell of urine. I went to the toilet and there was dried up urine splashes on the floor that I had had to clean up myself. There are no toilet rolls either so I had to ask the reception. I had been out all day working and just wanted to relax. It’s was now 20:30. I was hungry and went to the restaurant with my friend who had already stayed at the hotel the night before. It appeared that the person serving us was the only one on shift at the time, the food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either and it took more than half an hour to arrive. There was no cutlery on the table either I went to another table to get the cutlery myself as the staff member didn’t seem too bothered to get us. Looking at the table next to us, there were used glasses and dishes of guests who had probably eaten there before us and the table wasn’t cleared. Getting the bill also took ages. The staff member lamented that he had a busy day and was very tired. I settled in for the night knit to realise that there was no phone service or wifi accessible in my room. I had to go out into the hallway in order to use my phone. The entire ordeal was like something out of a bad movie. I don’t understand how this can be allowed to happen.

Had a lovely 3 night stay at the Schooner, we had the full english breakfast all 3 mornings which set us up nicely for the day, service was quick and it was good value for money. We stayed in room 4 which was over the front door and had a sea view, and opening sash windows, the room was clean and comfortable with an en suite shower room. Martin the owner was very friendly and helpful, and on checking out he even offered to get someone to give us a lift to the station, and gave us 2 bottles of water for our train journey. Contrary to many of the reviews we found the staff were friendly and helpful at all times, and the owner particularly. Though some of the corridors weren't spectacular, the actual room itself was clean and nicely decorated, as was our bathroom, the breakfast room seems to have been recently renovated and was very nice, the hotel also has a nice beer garden area which is lovely on a sunny evening.

Good Grief. Its supposed to be a hotel with a bar and food but oh no it thinks its an Indian restaurant I stopped off on a coast walk for a lunch time pint and a bite to eat and thought it odd that it was deserted. Eventually someone came out and I got beer and asked for the food menu and was given an Indian Restaurant menu. Definitely not what I expected from what was o century a great place to eat and drink. I didn't stay!

Went for food, just terrible, worse curry I’ve had in years, over priced, do not waste your time / money, Shocking. We were the only people in the place which should ring alarm bells, however, we thought we’d give it a try. Burnt popodoms, worse sloppy pickle tray ever. I suspect I’ll be poorly tomorrow 😳

The staff made us feel very welcome they were polite and friendly provided a good service in restaurant, they couldn’t do enough for us. Indian cuisine very tasty and a good English breakfast. Special mention for Martin for making us feel welcome and comfortable. We noticed some bad reviews but thought we would try it anyway, we were not disappointed in the hotel for the price we paid, the location is great rooms are spacious and we had a nice sea view with windows that could open, it was warm and beds and bathroom were clean.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE - READ ALL REVIEWS Great location very poor hotel not clean unhelpful staff How this is still going is beyond me Just redd the other reviews to gauge if you book what you are getting yourself in for. This could be amazing ! but sadly not
