Stayed there for a couple of nights and really enjoyed my stay. The rooms are basic but all you need as the location is fabulous to see the local area, we were doing the 26 mile Allendale Challenge for charity and we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. The staff were amazing, super friendly and couldn’t do enough for you, the owner was equally hospitable and cooks a mean full English. Very tasty! Great choice of beers on in the pub and the evening food (severed Thursday, Friday, Saturday and I think Sunday too) was absolutely top notch. Great little find and will revisit at some point for sure.

Nice cosy pub with an excellent atmosphere comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast landlord very helpful, could not wish for more has a great choice of beers and wines it is located in the centre of Allendale which is a lovely village and parking is not a problem

This pub is an absolute hidden gem!!! The atmosphere, beer, welcome, food and local amenities was all faultless. Phil and his staff couldn’t be more welcoming and I can’t wait to visit again!! The pub has a fantastic open fire for cold evenings, a great selection of beers, great food and just an all round superb vibe! The village is lovely with excellent walks from the pub itself. There is a post office with cash machine, Co-op store and traditional butchers all within a hundred yards. There’s literally everything here you could ever need including a quoits pitch in the rear beer garden! Yes quoits! A local team still play from there! The rooms were spacious and very clean!

Called for food yesterday lunchtime to be informed that the chef was at a funeral. Called today to be informed no food as the kitchen was being renovated. Why not be Honest and say we are not serving food today. Won't be wasting my time calling again.

Visited the kingshead on a cold March night, we was greeted with a big cosy fire, friendly staff & great food & drink was had by all, a good nights sleep & was great to wake upto a night big breakfast, endless toast, tea & coffee. We will definitely be returning! Thanks Paul

Great find of a country pub outstanding Sunday lunch in a warm friendly atmosphere.The food was cooked to perfection piping hot and great portions everyone left full and will definitely be back.The landlord and staff couldn’t do more for us and were very friendly and welcoming.

Brilliant bar and a brilliant local custom! I went along with friends while we went away and happened to bump into a hen do on the night out we were there; and the atmosphere with the DJ, behind the bar staff and the welcoming ascustom of Chris behind the bar was second to none! Beds are better than my own; which I hate. Rooms are well maintained/cleaned and more modern than I though which were pleasent. Planning on heading back at new year as I've seen the village have a great atmosphere with a huge bonfire and will be a brilliant change for the new year.

Many thanks to Jim and his staff at the Kings Head. Popped in today with my family after a walk from our remote farmhouse accommodation a few miles away. Despite us being dripping wet with our two dogs we were given a warm welcome by staff and locals and enjoyed a couple of pints of their excellent Guinness as we dried out near the roaring fire.Staff also showed us their B & B rooms available as I intend to come back next year with my fishing mates. Thanks everyone for making our stay in Allendale a special weekend 🍺🔥👏
