We are actually still here presently for 2 nights 13-15 September. Checked in yesterday and was welcomed by a lovely gentleman in a kilt. Reception staff welcoming but not 5* service. Standard room with loch view £1426 for 2 nights B&B!! Sadly, not as clean as it should be, no little touches and no mini bar despite our booking stating it had one. Room 144. Having stayed here in 2014, and then finding it 5* luxury we decided to return 10 years later. Very overpriced Premier Inn comes to mind now ! Martin Wishart gone, guests in smart dress gone. Breakfast was good but sadly a buffet style in a ‘5*’ is not expected. Last night we ate at the Vista restaurant - having confirmed the booking 2 days ago, expected a nice welcome but was greeted with ‘have you booked as we don’t have you in the diary, please show me your confirmation’. Then a table was found but we were told there was no drink menu apart from wine??? We ordered food and got forgotten about, then as a gesture we were given another focaccia! Ordered an Amerone and the wine waiter snapped the cork at the table in the bottle!! Waitress, not got a clue. Food ok, nothing special. Ordered another bottle of wine only to be told, we don’t have any more Amerone - then the waiter appeared with a bottle 5 minutes later! Whiskey bar back at the hotel, lovely and a fabulous selection, no complaints there. Breakfast staff good and praise indeed to the vibrant lady on breakfast reception, she was outstanding and her welcome is very much a 5* one. A very chaotic hotel, certainly not what is was, guests a very different clientele to how it was at our last stay. Maybe the addition if ‘resort’ should have put us off. Had we not already paid, we would be leaving today. In the lounge but £26 for a glass of champagne is certainly very steep! So sad as this was a delightful hotel but it has lost its charm, welcome and luxury that it once had.
