No one on reception or bar on arrival. Slow service need more staff. Rooms ok but need some tlc, mirror in wrong place, no plug sockets near bed. Poor drinks tray in room. Breakfast is acceptable but not great.

The room was very comfortable and has everything you need. I did find that a heavy quilt in the summer was a bit much. There is a fan though. On our last night we had late arrivals above us. They were very noisy not just the walking about but I could hear their conversation. Strange as didn't hear the people beside us at all. The staff are 10 out of 10 and despite the late arrivals I would return

We have been going to white lion for many years, this year we were saddened by the decline in external and internal appearance, it appears unloved and no maintenance ,lack of investment is clear. The wooden window frames are so bad I’m shocked the glass is still in place. On entry to the hotel you are welcomed with thick dust on plastic flower display, lamp shade full of dead flies and months above you, the window above the door is thick with webs and flies and filthy. Main reception appears clean, dining area (breakfast room) hanging lamp shade thick with dust. The room itself is clean to the eye. Bedroom: clean on appearance however needs a freshen with paint. Bathroom clean to the eye.. bathroom tiles around bath grout is black with mould and needs replacing. Corridors need paint freshen up. Staff are wonderful so helpful and cheerful, smart and knowledgeable of the area. Come on white lion! Start investing .

From our initial booking to the end of our stay we received nothing but exceptional customer service. The team at the White Lion did everything they could to ensure our stay was problem free. Realising from our request for a disabled parking space that our room booking wasn’t accessible by the lift they altered our room to accommodate us. The room was lovely, spacious and clean and a very comfortable bed. From the coastal view to the extras provided we had a wonderful stay. Our meal in the Sea Spice restaurant was excellent and we can’t wait to book our next stay so we can work our way through the menu. Thanks to all the team we loved it and will be back.

Popped in for a beer with a friend to have a catch up with folk I used to drink with in the White lion before moving away. Ordered a beer which needed changing in the cellar. So off he went ,it mins later after one of the regulars shouted out to get attention he appeared. No apology, just a (I was busy sorting out a hotel matter which is more important than you ) what an attitude ! Eventually got beers had a chat with friends and left ,problem won't bother going back

Stayed Friday and Saturday night at the white Lion in a seaview room. The room was very hot (it was a warm day). This was not helped by the fact that the sash cord window could barely be opened. Also, the towel rail was on full blast.(This was obviously to help dry out the floor from the shower, which leaked under the screen. This is obviously an ongoing problem as there is a tidemark on the bathroom floor.) A fan was available in the room but did not make a difference to the overall temperature. The room was cleaned to a high standard and was of a good size. We did not have any meals other than breakfast, which was of good quality with plenty of choices. However, it would have been better to have a buffet selection for things like cereals, juices, and continental breakfast items rather than ordering everything through the staff. In conclusion, the white lion delivers on being a good host, but it is looking a little tired around the edges. The staff make a hotel, and the Lions staff give that in bucket loads. We have stayed previously in other establishments, under the Hotel Folk umbrella, and will continue to do so but would probably not stay again at the White lion purely based on our experience with our room

The negative is that it is overpriced for the quality of rooms! I shared a twin room and the beds were approx. 1 inch apart and the room was average at best. However this was made up by the service of the staff in the hotel, we were staying as a group of 12 and nothing was too much trouble. All staff were engaging and the service they provided from breakfast, general enquiries, restaurant and bar staff were exceptional and more than made up for the quality of the rooms.

The location is excellent but rooms and corridors are seriously drab. At this price the hotel needs a major overhaul to bring it up to the kind of quality a building in such a good position should command. Rooms are on the small side but that would not be an issue with fresher decoration.
