Simply one of the best hotel/guest houses I have stayed in my life. An incredible historic building interior, peaceful and remote from the bright sunshine outside, decorated like a royal palace, with as many stunning communal living rooms and lounges as there are guest rooms, dressed in incredible textiles and classic armchairs and side tables. Comfortable, richly furnished with antiques and art, it is like stepping back in time with the opulence of a stately home and many quiet, coy spaces to read or relax in a slice of history. The bedrooms are large and freshly decorated with deep comfortable beds and huge pillows, antique cupboards, a spacious bathroom and regular daily cleaning. Duarte and Lisa were amazing hosts. Duarte took time to introduce me to all of the house and make me feel really welcome and both he and Lisa provided a fantastic breakfast each day in their equally impressive dining room, a selection of breads and marmalades, freshly cooked eggs, freshly squeezed Orange juice, taken on antique furniture in front of a roaring fire. I did not try the terrace or the swimming pool due to the time of year, but it is truly a safe, welcoming house where it is relaxing to spend a quiet morning or evening simply enjoying the tranquility of the impressive common areas and furnishings. Outside the house, Elvas is a stunning fortified city, always bathed in sunshine, with friendly locals and steep, sleepy lanes or walks outside the town walls. The castle is a short walk up from the house and it is just far enough from the centre to be quiet but with restaurants a walk away. I was lucky to come in the off season when I rarely saw another person even for several days and felt like I was living in my own historic palace, and slept as well as in any place I have ever stayed. But I would love to return even in the summer when the house is more full as there is so much space and luxury, so much comfort, so many different places to relax, and so much care and attention spent by the hosts on their guests. A simply remarkable place to stay that deserves only the maximum rating possible from those who visit.

This stunning boutique hotel, housed in a historic residence dating back to 1780, offers an exceptional blend of luxury and charm. Our stay was nothing short of delightful. Duarte, the manager, warmly welcomed us, gave us a full tour of the house, and assisted with our luggage. The bedding and towels were of the highest quality, ensuring a restful stay. The inviting pool area was a perfect spot to relax, and the breakfast was both delicious and crafted from premium ingredients. We highly recommend this hotel—it's an experience you won't want to miss!

Simply Excellent Outstanding hotel. Renovated house from the XVIII century, turned into a wonderful boutique hotel. Easy to find, with plenty of available parking in the street nearby. The quality of the linens, bed sheets, towels and bathroom amenities were superb. Very comfy bed, great sleep quality. The staff was excellent. Iria provided an incredible service, with a marvellous breakfast and check in-out experience. Duarte was a wonderful host, providing an awesome tour of the house and catering to all our needs. I don't know how many start Travassos 11 has, but the experience is 5 stars and luxurious.

Again we stayed at Travassos 11, it is a fabulous old house close to the centre of town dating from the 18th century and has been lovingly restored. The owners own an antique shop in Lisbon and have furnished the house with some beautiful items sympathetic to the era of the house. Luckily for them, when they acquired the property they discovered a lot of original features still in very good condition, so the house still has some of the original tiling on the walls and floors and an amazing marble staircase where you can see the passage of many feet over the centuries in the worn down centre of each step. We have stayed here once before so knew what to expect. This time, there was a new and very charming manager called Duarte, who welcomed us as if it was his own house. We were the only guests too which made the whole experience even more special. After breakfast, the next day, before it got too hot, we decided to go for a quick stroll around Elvas. Despite being there twice before, we still managed to find new areas to explore including the English cemetery and the famous Elvas plum museum and preserving factory. It’s such a pretty little town and as it’s an hour further on from Évora, is much less touristy.
