We stayed at the Carlton Lodge in Adrian, Michigan, hoping to relive a positive experience there from 10 years ago. Unfortunately, this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. We booked the family suite, and while it had the beds we needed, the room was in terrible shape—damp, dark, and poorly maintained. Electrical sockets were loose, the carpet was ancient, and stains on the mattresses and walls grossed out my kids. Housekeeping was nonexistent; I found an abandoned cart that I was able to restock some linens from. No TP in the bathroom so that was another trip to the front desk, as was a trip for towels and blankets for the sofa bed. The “included breakfast” was a joke: nothing to put on the bagels or waffles (just multiple empty and abandoned bottles of syrup stashed behind the counter) , and one day we even had to ask for milk from the front desk ( that was weird…) . While some hot items were actually okay, the overall breakfast felt neglected. The last day we there was also just an awful smell, like holy crap something had gone bad, might have been the nearly rotten basket of brown bananas on the counter, who knows. On top of that, I overheard guest complaints about all the same concerns and saw signs the hotel might be transitioning to something else, like not a hotel…. The argument between the night desk clerk and a guest was fun to witness, the guest while a little unhinged was ranting about all the same concerns and the staff member said yeah I’m not cleaning your room, I’ll refund you and you can go somewhere else… It was 11PM. The desk staff did say the General manager would not be back for 2 weeks so maybe that’s a factor??? Whatever the case, they should be clear what to expect. I would give zero stars if possible. I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. The Holiday in Express down the road is an option or an AirBnB or heck the back seat of a car would be a better option. If you do get stuck here Millers just down the road has an amazing breakfast and is highly recommended!
