Base Ethiopia International Hotel

Was here on transit but never felt safe at all from airport pick-up. The bus/shuttle driver insisted on getting his tip before taking off from the airport to drop us at hotel. He said that he was doing us a favour by taking us to the hotel with the shuttle half-full since we’d have to stay longer at the airport waiting for passengers to fill the shuttle Upon arrival, the staff who helped take my luggage to my room refused to leave my room until I had given him a tip, on insisting that I only had huge dollar bills that I was not willing to give him and a 10 Birr note, he told me to give him the 10 Birr note and that’s when he left my room- such money-hungry staff!!

It's an amazing experience at base international especially food just wow staff is very friendly and way good in customer services and prompt to respond. Hotel is hygienes and clean Highly recommended. Thank you so much for make my trip memorable.

Put into the hotel by Ethiopian Airlines after having to change flight times. Everything seemed OK until the following day. Went for breakfast and the food not heated correctly and very sparse. I needed to go into Addis and was told they could arrange transport as it would be dangerous to get a taxi alone. Discussed with a staff member arranging a car and was told they would arrange for me to meet and speak with the driver .3 hours later nothing found the staff chatting on the second floor when they informed me they they where busy do nothing had been arranged. Lunch cold partially reheated rice with very limited menu.Just a matter ofvtime before someone gets ill if it hasn't happened already. Was told in the evening I could only have the same limited menu so chose not to eat due to of possible food poisoning given my experience of breakfast and lunch. Very frustrating as was unable to leave the hotel due to them not arranging transport as agreed. I am shocked Ethiopian Airlines continue to have a contract with them as Ethiopian Airlines generally have a good reputation perhaps they are not aware of the issues. To be fair most staff where pleasant and polite. I will choose and pay for my own Hotel for any future stop over. It sadness me to have to write such a poor review as initially everything seemed to go OK but soon changed . One of the reasons I needed the transport was to see a doctor as I had a fall at the airport prior to going to the hotel. Ended up travelling back to London in a lot of pain and discomfort. Ethiopian Airlines have a good reputation and I wonder how aware they are of the poor quality the passenger's recive at bade hotel.

good location , clean and friendly staff

Overall, the staff was great. It is important to note the helpfulness, diligence and professionalism of many of the hotel staff from housekeepers to waiters (example - Meseret Bellete) to concierge (example - Workneh Abay). Nevertheless,the hotel needs to improve in several key ways. A. Inconsistencies between Room Service Prices Advertised vs Actual Hotel Expectation The room service menus located in the room were not updated, so when guests order room service, they are charged a lot more that what the prices were on the menu. B. Guest Room Bathrooms The bathrooms needed a deeper clean and needed to be in better working condition. The drain in the bathroom smelled very bad, shower doors were broken or missing all together, and the shower grouting has molds. C. Guest Room Beds The mattress was not comfortable at all. What the hotel calls a mattress was actually the box spring. The hotel claimed some guests like to sleep on a hard wood and metal coils. Nevertheless, we changed rooms due to this. D. Area Sounds of Hotel Location The area where the hotel is located is accessible but very busy and noisy with loud music all night long especially during the weekend. It was very hard to have a good night rest. In conclusion, the staff was very nice; however the hotel management needs to do better in keeping the rooms in better repair and providing better communication regarding billing.
