Barnsley Resort

Barnsley is a beautiful place. It is good for a quick get away. There has been many celebrities that have stayed here. The rooms are very nice and clean. If you are looking for a getaway this is a good place.

My wife and I just returned from a 4-day stay at Barnsley Resort, and we couldn’t have picked a better place for some R&R. This was our first visit, and we stayed in one of the cottages cozy, charming, and well-appointed. From the rocking chairs on the front porch to the plush bed and comfortable living area, it felt like a home away from home. And thankfully, the A/C worked like a champ, crucial when it’s pushing 90+ degrees outside. The resort grounds are absolutely beautiful, with something for everyone: horseback riding, fishing, clay shooting, golf, hiking trails, a peaceful meditation garden, and even the ruins of the original plantation home that add a unique historical element. We spent a good amount of time lounging by the pool, which is well-stocked with towels and offers food and drinks from the pool bar. You can also rent a cabana if you want some extra shade and comfort. At night, the resort lights several fire pits where guests gather to wind down, s’mores and good conversation included. The one downside is the dining options. The Woodlands is the only full-service restaurant on-site, and while the food is good, the prices are on the higher side so plan ahead and definitely make reservations. There’s also the Biergarten, a casual outdoor spot, but it was closed during our stay and had a private event the one night it was open. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and the vibe was a mix of families, couples, and older guests all enjoying the peaceful setting. Just a heads-up: the resort is a bit remote, so next time we’ll be sure to bring a few essentials with us. All in all, Barnsley is a charming, relaxing spot with Southern hospitality and plenty to do—or not do, if that’s your preference.

Four couples drove to the Woodlands restaurant for dinner. This is a 90 minute trip. The entree list was very limited and priced above many other similar places. Our food was okay but certainly not outstanding, and one of our party had to wait fifteen minutes for his food after everyone else was served. He was comped a dessert. My $30 fish & chips was mostly batter, I had to hunt for the grouper, fries were good, as was the complementary bread. My wife's pasta was below average and salad nothing special. Her wine was all right but overpriced. 20% is added to every bill regardless of the size of the party. Overall a disappointing evening food wise.

Absolutely amazing place!! Rooms are so relaxing and beautiful. Larry did a FANTASTIC job at the history tour - give that woman her bottle of champagne!!

My stay at Barnsley Resort was a dream getaway that felt like stepping into a storybook. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and attentive, and the grounds were absolutely stunning—lush gardens, wooded trails, and the romantic ruins of the original manor house. Whether horseback riding through scenic trails, canoeing on the lake, or unwinding with fireside cocktails, every moment felt curated yet effortless. The accommodations were cozy and refined, and the culinary experiences were exceptional. Perfect for a romantic escape, a stylish photoshoot, or a serene retreat with friends, Barnsley Resort is a hidden gem with heart, heritage, and hospitality.

The exceptional level of service was provided with every experience. Brent at the Biergarten, Olivia at the Woodlands restaurant on two different evenings and at the golf course, Taylor at the Woodlands and at the Inn. Two other excellent events: the Bourbon tasting with Jackson and the Wine/ruins tour with Karrie. Their focus on their customers experience was above and beyond! The experience each of them provided is the reason their names are top of mind. My family and I have stayed at many resorts around the country and abroad and the key at Barnsley is the staff that makes this amazing property and its experiences a joy for all ages. We will be back hopefully soon!
