Hotel-Restaurant Krone

My son and I visited Aarberg for a business meeting in nearby Lyss. Hotel Krone appeared to be conveniently located so we booked two rooms for two nights. Refurbishment works were being undertaken so no restaurant was available for dinner or breakfast. We were sent to a nice coffee shop 400m away for breakfast and found acceptable restaurants each evening for dinner. Reception staff were pleasant and friendly. On arrival we parked outside the hotel in the main square and carried our bags in to check in. I told the receptionist that I was parked outside and was told this would be okay until we had checked in and I would be given a parking disk after we had taken our bags to our rooms. I returned immediately to reception and took the disk to place in the car, only to find that I had already received a parking ticket ! I took the ticket to reception and was told "don't worry, we'll sort that". In early March however I received a letter from the Municipality of Aarberg with a CHF 40 parking fine. I contacted the hotel who claimed to have made representations to the town hall but had been unsuccessful in getting the fine overturned. I then wrote to the Municipality of Aarberg explaining what had happened and was told that the hotel had not in fact made any representations and that the fine would stand, despite my explanation of the circumstances. Clearly the authorities of Aarberg are not visitor friendly, or supportive of hospitality. The amount of the fine is not life changing, but the circumstances are very disappointing and I am taking the time to write this review simply for the benefit of anyone who may choose to visit the town in future. Beware the traffic warden waiting to persecute visitors upon arrival ! For our next visit to Lyss we will be giving Aarberg a miss.
