Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse
4.3/579 Reviews
My biggest mistake of this trip to Yamagata is to book this hotel. It's a good hotel but it's in the middle of nowhere. You will want to stay around the city of Yamagata province which is also called Yamagata city just so you can get to famous tourist spots. However this is 4 hours away from all of these. I had to book another hotel so I can stay 1 day in the city when I wanted to visit these places and the traveling time just completely made me exhausted. It took like 1 day to go to a place and 1 day to go back. It was so terrible, I was crying. This place is closed to Shonai airport not Yamagata airport so I also had to book another flight from Shonai. I wasted so much money for transportation. It was such a terrible experience. However the hotel is incredibly beautiful with smart design in everything. I loved the onsen very much. If it was just a vacation/restcation for relaxing purpose or isolate yourself from the human word, it's the best choice for you. Since its in the middle of the endless rice field, there is nothing to eat except for paying very high price to eat at the hotel's restaurant. And the food was just okay. The beauty of this hotel was like a trap. Its like I was blind from its beauty and couldn't see all other disavantages.
Tachibanaya
4.4/517 Reviews
Tachibanaya sits next to a river in a quiet village surrounded by forested mountains. Huge rooms, ofuro, rotemburo and sauna for the onsen experience: yukatas, tatami and kaiseki dining for the ryokan ambience. Meals are served at reserved tables in a dining room. Free shuttle to meet Uetsu line Inaho trains at Atsumi Onsen station. Caters almost exclusively to Japanese guests: a knowledge of onsen etiquette and basic Japanese recommended. I have stayed in many similar places over many years - this is one of the very best. SF: Loistava ja erittäin hyvä arvo.
Kameya Hotel
4.4/56 Reviews
I stayed here on a tour of the Shonai region. It was a cheap tour, so I didn't have high expectations, but I was surprised by this inn. The approach from the gate at the entrance is decorated with the ”Pine Festival Pull Rope” of Mt. Haguro. The interior of the spacious lobby is also wonderful, and there is a welcome drink counter. There is a shop in front of the front desk, but it is not a typical souvenir shop, but a select shop that also sells traditional crafts from around Yamagata. At the back of the first floor, there is a storehouse-like store where you can drink local sake. The guest room, which can be reached by elevator, is quite spacious with tatami flooring and two large beds. Behind that is a wooden floor with a sofa. The floor is heated, so it is comfortable to lie down. The large window overlooks the Sea of Japan. The meal was a kaiseki meal as part of the tour, but the delicious food made with locally produced ingredients, which showed the chef's good taste, was served in abundance. Breakfast was the same as the other guests in another large hall, but it was an elaborate set meal like a Shokado bento. It was delicious food that looked good on social media. The hot spring was also wonderful, and the large communal bath had a large tub, a cypress bath, and an open-air bath. The next morning, when I went to the beach, I could see Mt. Chokai to the north. The hotel staff were also very considerate, and at dinner time they prepared ice for the remaining bottles of shochu so that we could drink it in our room. It felt like I had stayed at a good inn for the first time in a while.
Hotel Stay in Sanno Plaza Premiere Annex
2.8/56 Reviews
Stayed at Hotel Valencia on the river walk in San Antonio TX. The place really rocks! The manager Liz and the hostess Emil were incredible with their service. We highly recommend this place to all. All the staff starting from the valet, bar and house keeping are so attentive and house warming. We need more hotels like this. Can’t wait to come back.
Yura Onsen Yaotome

Tokyo Daiichi Hotel Tsuruoka
4.2/510 Reviews
The appearance is very impressive. According to the station's proximity, the biggest advantage is to take the airport bus and turn around. Next to the local shopping mall, the hotel has a door leading directly to the shopping mall. The largest room in the annex building, the space is okay, but the facilities are a bit old. I heard that the main building has been renovated recently, I guess it’s better? Breakfast is okay, Japanese-style rice miso soup type, Western-style only has bacon small intestine. The rice is delicious. Yamagata is an agricultural county! The service is of course good, some front desks do not understand English, and communication is strenuous. There is also a key to leave at the front desk, which is very interesting.
