In his new book, On the Hippie Trail, Istanbul to Katmandu: The Making of a Travel Writer, he tells us of this transformative journey. Forty five years later, he reflects on that trip, including adventures only a guy like Rick could get away with-- in Tehran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal.  Rick will not only discuss The Hippie Trail, but will discuss the concept of travel as a political act, about the need to get out of our comfort zones and talk to people who live where we travel.
