Details

Pack your metaphorical bags and prepare to embark on a journey around the world of dance! No experience required! This 2hr study is designed to be the Costco of dance workshops! You will get a generous sample of a variety of dance styles, a comparison of what makes them unique, yet also similar. From Egypt, to Brazil, Hawaii, Persia, and beyond, we will take a look at the way people move their HIPS and the beautiful STORIES they tell through dance. With a dash of history, a pinch (or two) of spice, and the informed guidance of Amber Rose and Parker Amsel—you will be cooking up a HIPstory medley of your own by the end of the workshop! You will learn the basics of a variety of Middle Eastern Belly dance and Latin dance styles, all of which have overlapping qualities. Each dance style has something that makes it distinct and unique to the culture it comes from, the land the people dance on, and the way the movements are executed in the body. WHAT TO BRING: —Water bottle —Notebook and pen —Hip scarf (optional) —Dance shoes (recommended) or socks —Wear comfy clothes —Curiosity —No dance experience required! —Expand your dance repertoire —Sample something new —Learn what makes styles different from one another —Enhance your fusion dance! —Collect fun facts! There is a whole World HIPstory waiting for you to discover! Earlybird: $40 After August 15: $45 At the door: $50 Amber Rose is a professionally trained bellydance and fusion performer and teacher. In addition to her dance training, she combines her knowledge as a yoga teacher with her skills as a formally trained musician, and visual artist to guide you in proper body alignment, musicality, dynamics, creative flow and more. Amber has become known for her magical and elegant silk veil performances in the classical Egyptian dance style Raqs Sharqi . Her keen attention to detail and previous experience with partner dancing has allowed her to connect with the veil as a dance partner, not just a prop. She is passionate about assisting others in becoming the best version of themselves through movement, mindfulness, and fun! Parker Amsel is a co-owner of Viva Dance Studio in Cleveland, Ohio. He trained in gymnastics and martial arts for 15 years before starting ballet, modern, and ballroom in college. He has been teaching most styles of competitive ballroom and social partner dance, including theater arts, since 2007. He started one of Cleveland‘s most successful salsa clubs in 2010 and operated it for seven years. He has competed nationally and trained with many former and current champions. He introduced Zouk to Ohio and is a community leader in Cleveland. Besides Dance, Parker is a published writer, musician, and DJ. Information Source: Amber Rose | eventbrite
