The festival marking the end of the Buddhist Lent is filled with celebrations and fun, authentic activities. 
The Buddhist Lent period lasts three months and traditionally coincides with the rainy season. The End of the Lent Festival is held on the last day of the Lent period. Usually, the festival is held in October and commemorates the day when the Buddha returned from the heavenly realm. Thai Buddhists celebrate this holiday by offering food and visiting temples. However, the festival not only includes religious aspects, but also includes exciting activities such as traditional longboat races in different regions. 
Different temples in each village often make bamboo boats and decorate them with lights and candles. Even families make their own banana trunk boats and take part in the parade! It is truly a beautiful scene that will remain in your memory like a warm and peaceful moment. Visitors can enjoy the parade of light boats on the Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom, which are decorated with lanterns and Buddhist symbols. In addition to Nakhon Phanom, this sight can be seen all over Northeast Thailand, including Bueng Kan and Loei. 
The day is also marked by street parades and various celebrations. In Nong Khai, another city on the Mekong River, the Naga Fireball Festival is held to honor a mythical creature that lives in the river. Sakon Nakhon in the Isaan region hosts an amazing wax castle festival and parade.
