Join the Veterans Day Program and Lunch at the Newark Public Library on November 10th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, for a thought-provoking event centered around the theme of "From Military Trauma to Healing through Creative Arts." This event will feature esteemed guests such as James Yee, an activist and former Guantanamo Chaplain, and Professor Janet McIntosh from Brandeis University. 

The program will commence with a riveting conversation with James Yee, who served as an Army chaplain at Guantanamo Bay and faced accusations of espionage when he reported prisoner abuse. Since then, Yee has become an advocate for military justice and has found solace in artistic expression as part of his healing journey. 

The second part of the program will be led by veteran poets and performers Jan Barry and Jenny Pacanowski, who will explore how writing, art, and creative expression can help veterans heal from service-related trauma and transition into civilian life. This segment will also include an introduction to Warrior Writers, an organization that encourages veterans to explore their artistic talents through various mediums, such as writing, painting, and photography. Additionally, attendees will be introduced to Women Veterans Empowered & Thriving, a program that empowers women veterans through writing and performance, enabling them to thrive in their everyday lives.

The event will provide a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the experiences of military veterans and the ways in which creative arts can facilitate healing. The day's schedule includes a conversation with James Yee and Janet McIntosh, a complimentary lunch for all participants and audience members, and a poetic theater performance titled "Bridge Back Home from War" by Jan Barry and Jenny Pacanowski.
