Onajide Shabaka: Miami Walking Studio is an immersive art experience led by renowned artist Onajide Shabaka. This unique walking tour takes participants on a journey to discover hidden landscapes and delve into the language of plants through art-making. Shabaka's studio, located in South Florida, serves as a metaphorical space for exploring the urban and rural environment. With a well-developed research-based walking practice, Shabaka delves into the environment and its biology, unearthing untold narratives and site-specific histories.

Since 1989, Shabaka's art practice has focused on ethnobotany, geology, and archeology, shedding light on their connection to human history, society, and culture. The Miami Walking Studio programs take place in two enclosed gardens on Miami Dade College campuses. Participants are invited to join Shabaka in his walking practice, uncovering hidden landscapes and overlooked natural elements such as seedlings and rocks. With the guidance of the artist, attendees will explore the language of plants through various artistic techniques such as drawing, mapping, and printmaking. The culmination of this exploration is the creation of a collaborative artwork.

The Environmental Demonstration Center, situated at the back of the campus, serves as the venue for this enlightening experience. Convenient parking is available in "Lot 5" at no charge.
