This event is a fundraiser for 
Don't Sleep on Alabama
, a podcast miniseries currently being developed by creative partners Lori Feldman & Claire Weingarten. They are excited to share Claire's award-winning documentary film 
Burning in the Sun
 with the people of the Shoals!
You are invited to join us for a Tuesday evening viewing of the movie outside in Pocket Park (in Seven Points, right next to Southern Trash), on May 6th. Sunset that evening is scheduled to be around 7:45, when we will start the movie.
We will be setup to let people in around 7:15, and seats will be first come, first served. Refreshments will be available for purchase (but feel free to bring your own).
This movie screening event is a fundraiser to raise money for production on Lori & Claire's current project (see below for more info on that!) so we are selling tickets for $10 for adults, $7.50 for kids, and children under 12 are welcome to come for free. You can purchase tickets ahead of time here on Eventbrite, or we will also be accepting cash and Venmo at the event.
Stick around after the movie for a Q&A with Claire, the film's producer. She and her crew spent months filming on location in Mali, and the adventures she had in making this film are as compelling as the film itself!

Burning in the Sun
 follows the story of Daniel, an electric character on a mission to build a solar panel business to power a West African village in Mali. The film chronicles his roller-coaster of a journey and captures the transformative ways the lives of the villagers and everyone touched by the project are changed making this a vital and inspirational story for us all.
The film was a 
New York Post "Critics Pick!"
 and played at film festivals on four continents--

 won dozens of prizes including the 
Berlin Cinema for Peace Award

Lori and Claire are currently developing a podcast miniseries that will blow up Blue Staters' assumptions about Alabama and share stories about our beloved Shoals home.
So many misconceptions about the people of Alabama tend to be shaped by the loudest voices on the national stage. 
Don't Sleep on Alabama
 is zooming into the NW corner of the state, and sharing the stories of amazing folks in the Shoals region, who are finding ways of pushing the needle towards positive change, within the cultural context of the reddest of Red States.
Through stories both surprising and inspiring, Lori and Claire are posing questions and sharing insights that they hope will help those around the country, who are working for a better future for the American people, within the cultural shifts happening in this moment of drastic change in our country.
