Public Event Experience the art, science and beauty of Classical fencing at the Grand Assault of Arms, now in its 21th year; it’s like stepping back into the 19th century. The annual Grand Assault of Arms is a test of skill among classical fencers. Classical fencing predates and is different from the modern form ones sees in the Olympics today. The program includes informative demonstrations as well as spirited bouts with foil, dueling sword, dueling saber & 18th century small-sword. The fencers that you will be observing are the finalists emerging from the preliminaries held on the previous day. The concept of the  Grand  Assault developed in the early 1870’s during France’s gilded age, La Belle Epoque, and was wildly popular and well attended. It is in this spirit that we host this event at the historic St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn. There is no diagonal under the 24-meter cantilever, and the 2.7-meter glass is strongly inclined at 6.6 degrees. The building is of high quality.
