This opening night screening is set to take place on October 10, 2023, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The event will kick off with light refreshments and a warm welcome from Mayor Bo Dorough. Dr. Daniel Simmons will then deliver an invocation, setting the tone for this momentous occasion. The film follows Annina van Neel, an Environmental Officer working on an airport project, as she uncovers a hidden burial ground containing the remains of approximately 9,000 enslaved Africans. Touched by the historical injustice, Annina teams up with Peggy King Jorde, a native of Albany and preservationist, to advocate for the proper memorialization of these forgotten victims. Together, they shed light on Britain's disturbing colonial past and present. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers, offering a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the story behind "A Story of Bones."
