Sep 25, 2025 (UTC+1)
Brighton and Hove
Cultural Experiences
Come and learn how to design and carve your very own bespoke ring at the atompshric Vine Street Tap in the centre of Brighton. In the workshop you will be taught a range of techniques and processes demonstrated by Mollie Paling from FLUX jewellery. You will carve and sculpt your own ring out of jewellers wax, using a variety of tools to explore and experiment with mark making, forming shape and surface texture. Don’t worry, everyone will start with a test piece allowing time to familiarise yourself with the material and methods of making. Once comfortable you will start to create your own ring individually inspired by your own ideas and personal taste. The ring can really be as dramatic or simple as you desire. By the end of your session you’ll have a finished wax ring ready for casting. *Extra wide/heavy rings may have additional cost added of approximately £30. After the class the rings are then sent and cast in 100% recycled silver ( or recycled gold if desired, cost difference will be explained) Once cast, Mollie will polish them up in her workshop in Lewes and returned within 3-4 weeks either by collection from FLUX or post to your door. All levels and abilities are welcome. Under 18's will need to be accompanied an adult. Please note : Cancellations made 48 prior to workshop will not be able to be refunded. We are delighted to be welcoming Lucy Rose, author of the astonishing debut 'The Lamb', to Brighton Waterstones to celebrate its paperback release. 'The Lamb' really has taken the book world by storm since its hardback release in January, winning awards and rave reviews all over the place.A gripping, sinister folktale, 'The Lamb' has been described as "deliciously dark and shockingly bold", "superbly creepy" and "surprising at every turn". Margot and Mama have lived by the forest since Margot can remember. When Margot isn't at school, they spend quiet days together in their cottage, waiting for strangers to knock on their door. Strays, Mama calls them. Mama loves the strays. She feeds them wine, keeps them warm. Then she satisfies her burning appetite by picking apart their bodies. But Mama's want is stronger than her hunger sometimes, and when a white-toothed stray named Eden turns up in the heart of a snowstorm, little Margot must confront the shifting dynamics of her family, untangle her own desires and make a bid for freedom. With this tender coming-of-age tale, debut novelist Lucy Rose explores how women swallow their anger, desire and animal instincts - and wrings the relationship between mother and daughter until blood drips from it. Seriously, WE CANNOT WAIT. Book & ticket option includes a paperback copy of 'The Lamb' (rrp £9.99) available for collection on the night. Information Source: Waterstones | eventbrite

This session from Judy Yorke , who writes the Chamber’s monthly breakfast copy, will give you essential hints and tips to improve your writing instantly. About Judy Yorke Judy has more than 30 years’ experience as a journalist for national newspapers and magazines. A decade ago, she set up The Sentence Works to work with people who need to write for work. Her training is based on journalistic principles - be interesting, be clear, be accurate and be concise. Join us at Brighton's Helm Gallery for a very special evening with Martin Parr, who will be discussing his long-awaited autobiography 'Utterly Lazy And Inattentive'. When Martin Parr was fourteen, his teacher wrote that he was ‘utterly lazy and inattentive’ in a school report. He went on to become one of the most successful and sought-after photographers in the world. This autobiography combines over 150 of Martin’s photographs with his recollections and reflections on each image. We meet a boy growing up in suburbia, who collects obsessively and notices everything. We see him exploding into the public consciousness in the late eighties with a series of startling, ultra-saturated colour images of the British seaside – and scandalising the photography establishment in the process. We see society changing over the decades, from the demise of steam trains, through the opening of the first McDonald’s in Moscow, to the transformations of the post-pandemic world. As Martin shares his story, his distinctive voice delicately captured by his friend, the writer Wendy Jones, he also reveals his approach to work and commissions, his tricks for gaining access and getting the shot and he divulges his particular passions: for crowds and queues, fetes and placards, bad weather on beaches, and more. This is the definitive account of a great photographer’s career, curating the work that has defined his life. Please note, book & ticket includes a copy of 'Utterly Lazy And Inattentive' (rrp £30) available for collection on the night. Information Source: Waterstones | eventbrite
