A Life Well Lived - A series of Dialogue Retreat Days The Buddha’s teachings offer practical guidance on how to actively cultivate a life that leads towards greater freedom, wellbeing and happiness for ourselves and others. In this series of three daylong retreats, we will take time in silence and relational meditation (Insight Dialogue * ) to investigate the role that Sila (ethics), Samadhi (absorption) and Panna (wisdom) play in cultivating a life well lived. *Insight Dialogue (ID) is a relational meditation practice for developing awareness and wisdom. It is designed to help us awaken together and integrate our understanding of Dharma teachings in a direct and immediate way. Supported by six Insight Dialogue guidelines, we bring kind awareness right into the heart of speaking and listening, often in pairs. Establishing these guidelines helps us to deepen our meditation while contemplating the Dharma together, allowing for experiential insight into the teachings. ID supports the weaving of a vibrant community of Dharma friendship as we collaborate in the awakening process together. We meditate together, recognising and unbinding the relational knots that cause suffering in our lives. In ID practice we engage with the buddha's teachings experientially, accessing their relevance to our wider lives. Rosalie Dores is an Insight Dialogue Retreat Teacher. She has practiced meditation and yoga since 1992. Her dharma roots are within the Vipassana, Theravada, Insight Meditation traditions and Insight Dialogue. Rosalie is dedicated to offering teachings that engage at the interface between ancient wisdom and the challenges of our modern world. She recognises that Insight Dialogue addresses the urgent need for a meditative practice that incorporates the social and interpersonal domains of human experience as intrinsic to awakening. She co-teaches courses and workshops dedicated to raising awareness about climate and social justice. Rosalie's website is https://optimalliving.co.uk/ if you'd like to attend future events with her Brent Beresford’s (they/them) greatest teachers are their children, showing them how unreasonable their expectations are, and encouraging the practice of relationship and community. Their work has been in engaging the power of relationship, accompanying individuals and groups since 2002. They have endeavoured to transmit teachings of Dhamma in various forms since 2013, through mindfulness-based approaches and the practice of Insight Dialogue. Brent aspires to lean into the darker places, finding “how the dark too blooms and sings.” A person of mixed racial heritage, they also identify as gender nonconforming. Brent is inspired to explore the living Dhamma with folks. Taking the large perspectives allowed through Dhamma, these must break down the rigidity found in colonized and patriarchal values, as well as integrate the ways we understand trauma to impact the nervous systems, both individual and collective. Their work as a psychologist, integrating Somatic Experiencing, greatly influences these aspirations. Brent is in-training to become an Insight Dialogue teacher under the mentorship of Phyllis Hicks, Beth Faria, and Jan Surrey. Information Source: Bodhi Tree Brighton | eventbrite
Paint your own Large Abstract Painting workshop in Brighton | Lawrence Art Studio

Paint your own Large Abstract Painting workshop in Brighton | Lawrence Art Studio

Oct 26, 2025 (UTC+0)
Brighton
Arts Painting
This isn’t a typical painting adult art class in Brighton. This isn’t a “paint by numbers” class or “copy how I paint” approach. In this workshop we will do things differently: The main tool we will be using is not the brush. It’s our mind - free from limitations. We will paint intuitively! Spontaneously to the music, allowing the paint to evolve and reveal itself freely into an explosion of colours, patterns, marks, shapes, texture on the canvas. We will paint big! Big brush movements, a bold colour pallet and even the fingers. The intention is to let go of any expectations. We will get messy! This is not about making pretty things. It’s rare opportunity to let go of perfectionism and experiment with a wide range of art materials (acrylic, watercolours, pastels, chalk etc) to free our inner artist and find our creative voice in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We will get creative! Art has no limitations, we use every day tools: window squeegee, credit card, bubble wrap, fork, scraper, feather, chopstick, ANYTHING to get our imagination going! Suddenly the concept of “painting” expands! It’s a painting wonderland full of possibilities. We will free ourselves from limiting beliefs! This dynamic and creative free-flow painting style will move us through past fears, creative blocks and self-doubt into joy and freedom! We will express ourselves! By opening our mind and listening to our heart, we can express our soul without boundaries or judgments. While experimenting with painting, we will build a relationship with who we are, reconnect to our inner child and fully express ourselves including the wisdom that is forever inside us. There is such freedom and joy in this! Who is this class for? This is a safe space for anyone! Even those who think they aren’t creative or can’t paint or draw. Also, this is a great opportunity for creative types who haven’t picked up a paintbrush in a while but are longing to express themselves through art. We can play and feel like a kid again without worrying about the end result. Nobody will judge what we create together. We are all on a journey to find our inner artist. The people who come to this class are from all walks of life: freelancers, entrepreneurs, website designers, yoga teachers, success coaches, parents….whatever! This could be fun and creative way to celebrate your birthday, anniversary or any other occasion (corporate team building) in Brighton, perfect Xmas gift too. What to expect on the day? Through fun, guided group and individual exercises we’ll explore wide range of art materials, experiment with an unconventional tools and try many abstract painting techniques including layering, mark making, texture. After a delicious lunch together, you will have time to develop your own intuitive painting on large canvas which you will take home with you at the end of the workshop. Date: Sunday 26th October Time: 10am till 4pm Venue: Lawrence Art Studio, 16 Kingsthorpe Rd, Brighton and Hove, Hove BN3 5HR Price: £250 (including all art materials + large canvas + lunch ) What’s included: 1 x Large Canvas (80x100cm or bigger, deep edge)Art Materials: acrylic paint, watercolours, spray paints, pastels, gesso and more… (you’re welcome to bring your own materials too)A selection of Brushes, texture & marking tools, apron and everything else you’ll need to create your one-of-the kind abstractLive group demonstration of abstract painting techniques and plenty of 1:1 guidanceProfessional Lawrence Art Studio Brighton and Hove Susex UKDelicious vegetarian lunchRefreshment: tea, coffee, biscuits & fruitsAll day event, places are limited to 10 participantsCan’t make this date? Join Off The Fence for the Big Sleep Out 2025 , a powerful, meaningful night of community action to raise awareness and funds for those experiencing homelessness in Brighton & Hove. On Friday, 14th November 2025 , participants will sleep out in St Peter's Square at St Peter’s Church, symbolising solidarity with over 1,000 individuals in our city experiencing housing insecurity or rough sleeping.    This event is not an attempt to replicate the reality of homelessness , which is a complex and traumatic experience, but rather an opportunity to foster understanding, humanise those impacted by poverty, and amplify the urgent need for sustainable solutions. We deeply respect those who have lived through the challenges of rough sleeping, and we acknowledge that one night in a cardboard shelter does not compare. What it does is shine a light on the issue , raise vital funds , and draw our community closer to the goal of ending homelessness.  Information Source: Community Fundraising Lead at Off The Fence | eventbrite

What do Dharma teachings say about beauty? And what is your relationship with this idea? How might an inquiry into beauty serve your practice and help you to navigate wise action? In this day long of practice we will reflect on beauty, its relevance to the path in general and its place in approaching Soulmaking Dharma Opening our imaginations, hearts, minds and bodies to whatever is our unique relationship with beauty, we will inquire into what might hinder and what might support a fertile and onward leading relationship with this idea and experience. The day will include formal mediation practice, reflection and inquiry, starting with samatha practices and opening more to Soulmaking teachings and practices as the day unfolds. As well as the inquiry into Beauty and the path, this day may serve as a glimpse into Soulmaking Dharma for those who are interested, as well as a support for those already familiar with these teachings. This day long retreat is suitable for anyone who has had an ongoing mediation practice within a Buddhist context for at least three years. No previous experience with Soulmaking Dharma practice is needed nor with Rob Burbea’s approaches to the Dharma, however an affinity and previous experience with Rob’s 'ways of looking' approaches will be a support. Catherine McGee has been teaching Insight Meditation retreats internationally since 1999. She is a member of the Gaia House teacher council, teaches yearly at IMS and BCBS and is a guiding teacher for One Earth Sangha - an online sangha exploring Buddhist responses to the climate and ecological crises. The highly anticipated English Harvest from Sophie's vineyard will feature three exceptional wines: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and a unique blend. Feel the Pause27–29 June 2025 | Brighton Art Space Join us for Feel the Pause, a group exhibition by four emerging artists: Caroline Burgess, Jasmine Latka, Meg Gorman and Quinn McKenzie-Hamilton. The artists first met through Nimble Art School (formerly Hastings Art School) as part of the first digital cohort on its year-long Artist Development Programme, graduating in 2024. This exhibition marks a celebratory closing chapter of their journey together. Step into a reflective space inspired by the quiet rituals of beachcombing: scanning the shore for shells, stones and other treasures washed up by the tide. Whether this be a solitary practice or one shared with loved ones, this mindful act of observation and collection becomes a metaphor for the artists' shared process of noticing, selecting, and cherishing the overlooked. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the exhibition explores themes of connection, memory, and attention, embracing stillness and the small moments found along the way.
