In Someone Like Me , editors Clem Bastow and Jo Case showcase the wide-ranging experiences of Autistic gender-diverse and women writers - and explode long-held stereotypes. When it comes to Autistic representation, BIPOC and white gender minorities have existed on the fringes of mainstream media for too long, rarely seeing representations of their unique experiences, hardships and triumphs. Join us for the launch, featuring local writers and contributors Julie Farrell and Fergus Murray, hosted by Elspeth Wilson! Delving into topics like sex, living room dance parties, the natural world, eating disorders, religion and all-encompassing passions, Someone Like Me brings together an eclectic mix of forms and voices that expand the cultural definition of the Autistic experience. Featuring contributions from authors from Australia and beyond - including Lucy Rose, author of The Lamb , and Naoise Dolan, author of Exciting Times - this groundbreaking anthology invites Autistic people of all kinds to find company in these pages, and maybe even see themselves too. Our Speakers: JULIE FARRELL (she/her) is an award-winning writer and activist, living by the sea just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. She is co-founder of The Inklusion Guide: a guide to making literature events accessible to disabled people. Her work on making the world a more inclusive place to all has seen her listed as one of The Bookseller ’s Top 150 Most Influential People in Publishing. Julie’s work explores the process of grief, loss and nostalgia in relation to family, identity and the planet. Julie serves as a trustee of Mslexia Magazine and on the Advisory Group for the new UK arts access scheme for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people, All In. FERGUS MURRAY (they/them) is a writer, science tutor and autistic community organiser based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They have been involved in several autism research projects and co-authored a number of papers, as well as contributing chapters to several academic books, but deny being a real autism researcher. Fergus was a co-founder of AMASE (Autistic Mutual Aid Society Edinburgh) in 2017, and was its Chair from 2021–2025; they also served on the board of Autscape, an autistic conference/retreat, for a few years. Their writing has been published in the Psychologist and Thinking Person’s Guide to Autism , among other places. They run monotropism.org and weirdpride.day . Join us for this bite sized lunch time talk exploring the history of medicine. In 1941, Jack Ennis, Captain and pathologist in the Indian Medical Service, was sent ‘up-country’ in Malaya to work at a remote hospital. Arts Comedy
Overview 101 focused on the core skills for improvisers to create spontaneous performances. Now we move on to Intermediate Improv (201), where we'll help students continue on their improv journey by further honing these improvisation skills and learning how to utilise them in the creation of the backbone of our craft: scene-work. Students will learn - through support, listening, character, physicality and more - how to create scenes that are as enjoyable to perform in as they are engaging to watch. The course will explore how improv performers go about creating scenes on the spot, including: what details help to create a believable reality; understanding why the scene "exists"; how to create rewarding comedy scenes that are worthy of the expression "you had to be there!". Topics covered by workshop Base Reality (the context of the scene: the who/what/where/why) Relationships (who are the people in the scene and why the audience should care about them) "The Game" of the Scene (aka the "funny" in a comedy scene - what it is, how to recognise it and how to play it) Pre-requisite Introduction to Improv (101) (or proof of equivalent) AND Introduction to Shortform Improv (102) OR I ntroduction to Longform Improv (103) (or proof of equivalent of the above) Our TBC Course Structure Explained: Our courses and classes have 2 defining numbers. The first number defines the level . 1 00 series - Introductory 2 00 series - Intermediate 3 00 series - Advanced etc. Then the 01, 02, 03 etc. defines the type of class. 1 01 Intro to Improv (building blocks) |1 02 Intro to Shortform |1 03 Intro to Longform This class series is in our intermediate 200 series, and will be taking you through the foundation and building blocks of this level. You can then use these skills to advance in short or longform styles. Your teacher: Gregor is a professional classically trained actor who has studied, taught and worked all over the UK. What does our history of murder tell us about Britain and what it means to be British? In this powerful new live event, Professor David Wilson, one of the UK’s leading criminologists, brings his latest book A History of Modern Britain in 20 Murders 1885-2025 to the stage. Known for his gripping storytelling and deep insight into criminal behaviour, Wilson explores murder cases in our nation’s history to discover the times in which they occurred—and what they continue to reveal about Britain today. Some of the cases he considers are well known – Jack the Ripper, James Bulger, Sarah Everard - others less so – The Carbon Copy Murders, Helen Priestly, Rachel Dobkin - with Wilson guiding audiences through more than a century of murders that shaped public consciousness, challenged our sense of self and reflected changing attitudes, values, and fears.
