Richard Pinel is a freelance organist and choral conductor, a Professor of Organ at the Royal Academy of Music and Director of Music at St Mary’s, Bourne Street in Belgravia. Until December 2022 he was a Fellow and the Director of Music at Jesus College, Cambridge. Prior to his position at Jesus College, Richard was Assistant Director of Music at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and he previously held the organ scholarship at St Albans Cathedral. Hailing from Northampton, where he was a chorister and later organ scholar at All Saints’ Church, Richard was awarded the organ scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford in 2002. During this time, the Grammy-nominated college choir undertook several recording projects with Harmonia Mundi, on which Richard’s playing was hailed as ‘a force of nature’. More recently, Richard has enjoyed competition success, winning the First Prize and both special prizes at the Breda International Organ Competition. Between 2017 and 2021 he was Director of the Edington Festival. Richard is also on the teaching staff at Eton College, and is a regular tutor on Oundle for Organists courses. His organ CD, L’Orgue Symphonique, has been praised for its ‘electrifying impact’ and ‘truly tremendous verve’ and his latest release (as conductor), the world premiere recording of Grayston Ives’ Requiem with Jesus College Choir and Britten Sinfonia (Signum Records) entered the classical charts in the top ten. Recitals have taken him across the UK, notably King’s College, Cambridge and St John’s, Smith Square and further afield to Europeand the USA. A traditional Irish folk and ballad band, The Kilkennys are noted for their dynamic arrangements, energetic performances and charisma! Picking up the mantle left by acts such as The Dubliners and The Clancy Brothers, the 4 piece group continue to conquer tour circuits in Europe and the U.S. In the past years The Kilkennys have shared the stage with renowned Irish artists such as Shane McGowan, Sharron Shannon and Finbar Furey. Continuing their hectic tour schedule 2016 saw the band perform on the main stage at Milwaukee Irish Fest - the largest Irish Festival in the world. “The Kilkennys are a great band upholding the Irish Folk/Ballad tradition with a contemporary style. Matching the passion & stories with these songs. In 2008 they decided to name themselves ‘The Kilkennys' after their beloved home, Kilkenny City. Now based in South East Ireland, the group have evolved through the years and are anchored by founding members Davey Cashin (vocals, mandolin, banjo, guitar, whistles), Tommy Mackey (bass, acoustic guitar, vocals), and Mick Martin (bodhran, uilleann pipes, low whistles, guitar, vocals). After releasing their live album and DVD ‘Meet The Kilkennys’, Radio and TV appearance soon followed, which included RTE’s Late Late Show, where they preformed their single ‘Shine on Kilkenny’ , an original song released to coincide with Kilkenny winning All Ireland hurling final for a forth year in a row, a sporting celebration also headlined by The Kilkennys. Their much acclaimed studio album ‘The Colour Of Freedom’ (2014) features a mix of original material and well known ballads like 'Rocky Road to Dublin’ and ‘South Australia’. The strong connection between the band and their music is showcased in this album, with compelling musicianship and pristine vocal harmonies. He has performed in the most prestigious concert halls, has appeared as a guest of major orchestras under the direction of renowned conductors, and has premiered an impressive number of new works. Appointed titular organist of the Great Organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris when he was just twenty-three, and emeritus organist of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in 2012, Olivier Latry is above all a brilliant and audacious all-round musician, exploring every possible aspect of his instrument, and endowed with an exceptional talent as an improviser. He took an active part in the inauguration of the organ of the Maison de Radio France in May 2016 and inaugurated the Rieger organ of the Philharmonie de Paris in 2017. He is organist in residence at the Dresden Philharmonie for the 2017-19 seasons. A former student of Gaston Litaize, he succeeded his teacher at the Saint-Maur Conservatoire before being appointed professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
