We are so excited to return to First Friday at First "LIVE" for our 2025 Jazz Series -- Atlanta’s first choice for extraordinary jazz performed by many of the best musicians and vocalists to grace a jazz stage anywhere on the globe! Join us in July when First Friday presents Wycliffe Gordon! Let's be honest: trying to sum up Wycliffe Gordon's incredible career is nearly impossible! The renowned and award-winning trombonist, composer, conductor, and arranger is a Georgia native with an almost endless list of accolades. You've heard his work everywhere, from theatre, radio, and television shows to the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and international stages. Gordon discovered his passion for jazz at a young age and passed on that love to the next generation of jazz musicians as an educator. He has served at the Manhattan School of Music, The Julliard School, Michigan State University, Augusta University, and many other recognized music programs. Wycliffe's return to the First Friday stage is truly an honor for which we are tremendously grateful. The 2025 Season continues at First Friday! The public is invited for great music, dinner, fun, and fellowship. (Please note: No outside food or alcohol is permitted.) Doors open at 6:00 PM. Seating is limited. The availability of tickets at the door are based upon advanced ticket and table sales. Season Ticket holders are guaranteed seating. General Admission tickets are $25, student tickets are $10 each with student identification (show ID at the door). Reserved tables of 8 are $200 . Prices for dinner range from $4.00 to $10.00. Funds raised at church-based events will be used to support other church programming and ministries. MAIN CHURCH LOT: Parking for guests/volunteers will continue to be available in the main church lot, where you will access the Commons via the back gate and staircase. ADDITIONAL PARKING: Alternate parking with be available at the corner parking of John Wesley Dobbs and Courtland Street (across from First Church). No shuttle will be available. You may walk to Ellis Street and turn right, or access the Commons via the back gate and staircase of the MAIN CHURCH LOT . PLEASE CONSIDER CARPOOLING OR RIDESHARING! COVID-19 Protocols As part of our return to First Friday at First events, we are anxious to provide a safe and comfortable environment given current COVID-19 guidelines. Join us in November for our final concert of the 2025 Season, when First Friday presents Doc Powell ! He's played with Chaka Khan, Bob James, George Duke, and the greats Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, and Luther Vandross. His signature guitar sound is now "sealed in music history" on over 200 recordings with some of the biggest artists in a wide range of music genres, earning gold and platinum records and solo Billboard recognitions. Powell has also contributed to commercials, award shows, and movie soundtracks. Doc started playing the guitar at six in Spring Valley, New York. By the age of 15, he was doing professional recording sessions. He now calls Atlanta home and First Congregational Church UCC his church home, where you can experience his virtuosity with the Third Sunday Jazz Band.
