Judy Frater traveled to India at age 19 to improve her batik techniques, a dyeing technique that uses molten wax to create intricate patterns on fabric. On a trip to Kutch, she discovered embroidery and diverted to exploring the mystery of austere women creating raucous colourful tableaus. Now she promotes the products of artisan designers from all over the world. She went on to do Masters Degrees in Anthropology at the University of Minnesota and Museum Studies at the University of Washington, and continued research on traditional textiles of Kutch for over 30 years. Maybe. Let’s see what Doug has to say as he reflects on his own adventure into the world of an unsolved murder that took place in 1990. He provided research for the podcast True Believer: The Unsolved Murder of Elizabeth Mackintosh . Ms. Mackintosh’s death is the only unsolved murder case in St. Louis County, Missouri. The crime took place on the campus of a small, tight-knit seminary community where Doug studied for his Master of Divinity alongside our very own Tom Becker. Stories circulated about this tragic event by the late 90’s, but it was a fading memory. It still remains an open case, and the True Believer podcast uncovers the various facets of its evolution. Doug will tell us how he got involved with this case, what he uncovered beyond the murder, and lessons he and his team learned from the process. We hope you will join us at The Row House Forum ! Speaker Bio Doug Serven is an ordained Presbyterian Church in America minister with degrees from Covenant Theological Seminary, the University of Missouri, and the University of Oklahoma.
