This tournament is an ongoing celebration of Mike’s life, and his passion for meaningful friendship, golf, and giving his time, energy and support to charitable organizations that inspired him. It is also an opportunity to spend time with Mike and Shawn’s incredible network of family, friends, and associates. This year, we hope to expand the tournament to a full shotgun to further support the Scotty Gomez Foundation, an organization which Mike helped to found and for which he had great passion. Mike and Peak Oilfield Services hosted the Stanley Cup celebration in Anchorage in 2000 and 2003, when Scott brought the cup to Alaska. In December of 2018, Mike suggested to Scott and Carlos Gomez, and a few others, that he wanted to resurrect the Scotty Gomez Golf Tournament in the summer of 2019, on a smaller scale, focused on those who supported the tournament in the early days. Mike’s idea for this tournament was realized in 2019 in a very fun and successful tournament, and we were fortunate to have been able to host the fifth annual tournament last year. I am sure that Mike will once again be there with us in spirit at the golf course, and he is certainly present in our combined thoughts and memories. The fee for a foursome remains at $1000, and although our main goal is not fundraising, any proceeds generated will go to the Scotty Gomez Foundation. The 6th Annual West High Alumni Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Anchorage Golf Course on O’Malley Rd. The Ashley Carpenter (AC) Classic Softball Tournament is an annual coed event that aims to raise funds for a local child who is bravely battling cancer. This year, the tournament will be held on September 30th at the Bondurant Recreational Sports Complex in Bondurant, Iowa. It is a great opportunity to show your support and make a difference in the life of a child in need. Teams are encouraged to participate and mark this important date on their calendars. The tournament promises to be an exciting day filled with fun activities and entertainment. Silent Auction, Raffle items, live music, and more will be available for everyone to enjoy. To ensure fair play, each team must have a minimum of 8 players on their roster, with a maximum of 12 players allowed. It is mandatory for each participant to complete the player registration online in order to take part in the tournament. Additionally, a minimum of 4 girls must be registered as part of each team. When it comes to batting and fielding, specific rules apply. Roster batting is encouraged, but if a team only has 10 players, substitutes will need to stay in the same lineup spot. For fielding, if there are only 4 girls, 2 must play the infield and 2 must play the outfield. Equipment regulations state that bats must have the USSSA, ASA, or NSA approval, and should not exceed 31 oz or 34 inches in length. Metal cleats are not allowed. Despite facing a tight deadline of just six weeks to film and four weeks to edit, these teams have poured their heart and soul into their creations. Comprised of five friends who came together in pursuit of the Alaskan dream, their diverse backgrounds and experiences in the Alaskan wilderness have shaped them into a tight-knit crew. Living in unconventional spaces such as school buses, vans, and enclosed trailers, armed with snowmobiles, ski planes, and verts, Team One Love represents the spirit of adventure that defines Alaskan culture.
