A Year in the Life of a Beehive | Sunninghill Library
Cultural Experiences
Local expert Glynis Morse has been keeping bees for nearly twenty years and her bees' honey has won numerous awards. She will bring her protective clothing, a virtual hive, a smoker, used combs and a jar of pollen. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and to handle the equipment.
Discover the story of a year in the life of a beehive, the role and behaviour of the queen, drones and workers, feeding and general care of the hive. An instructive presentation for existing beekeepers, and a fascinating introduction to bees for adults and children to enjoy.
A collection on the day will be for Bees Abroad, a charity that provides skills and resources for poor communities, mainly in Africa, to become beekeepers to create new occupations and a better life for their families.
